How much was a brick of .22 in the late 70's?

A brick of .22! Old school. We found two boxes in our old toy boxes at my moms house. I remember buying the same type when I was 13. Oddly enough I can't find my old Marlin youth rifle. Anyone remember the price back in 1979 for a brick of .22?

I think it was right at a penny a round. I think I remember it being a dollar per hundred, a few cents more that half that for a box of 50, and either the same or a few cents discount for the big block of 500. So about $5 for the block. IIRC that was pretty much the loss leader but fairly typical price advertised in the weekly newspaper for Sears, K-Mart, and Wards in the upper Midwest.

A bit before the Obama madness took over, at the Walmart in San Diego a brick of 550 rounds was $5.50 a box. I bought the 4 they had as the buzz was starting. Two weeks later the price was $6.25 and I bought all they had, 6 I think. Went back each Thursday as they came in Wed. night and bought 4 to 6 or whatever they had. Ended up with a lot, still have 25 bricks I think, I guess I am a hoarder?????

The mad dash to grab all that was on the shelves was a bit "tragedy of the commons " at the peak. I buy and shoot the crap out of them. Sucks when I run out.

				Rimfire prices

In 1971 I was fresh out of the Navy and bought a Ruger Single Action Convertible revolver on a lark. Got some ammo at the same time and I think it cost about 50-55 cents per 50 rd box. I paid the princely sum of $65 for the Ruger. Still have it so it must have been meant for me! I wandered into an old gun store that was going out of business and bought a couple of bricks of 22 magnum rimfire for $7.50 a brick! That will never happen again!

Vash, I shot competitive small bore in the 70s. Through the Pomona Elks Junior rifle club a brick of practice ammunition (T-22 or Green Tag) was $8.00 and Eley Tenex was $35.00. Needless to say I only shot the Tenex in matches and to confirm zeros. 2994 back from Iraq and on recommendation from Precision Shooting folks I ordered 100 cases on Aguila SE at about $96.00 each and 100 cases of Wolf match (German) for $142.00 each. Just before the Obama spike I hit up the local Wal-Marts and cleared them both out Federal automatch (a plinking round) for around $70.00 a case (4,000/case). The latter is what was used for plinking and when “friends” needed ammo. S/F, FOG

I don't know about the late 1970s, but is the late 1960s as a kid riding a bicycle I remember riding along the road and picking up glass pop bottles and going to the grocery store to cash them in and buying a box of 22 for under a buck. I don't remember how many were in the box. We only had a old bolt action rifle that belonged to a buddy. We were in 4th grade or so. Back then every hardware store and TG&Y and OTASCO sold guns and ammo.

Is there a price tag on the back and you will announce the cost?!? Cabelas has a sale on "a bucket of bullets" 1400 rounds for 80 bucks. If you still whine about that, I don't know ... they also have a special on free shipping to Cali G

no. i actually have no clue or memory of cost of ammo back then. it couldn't have been much, since i was 13-14 years old at the time and was not flush with cash at the time. i remembering buying boxes of 50 at a time. a brick would have been rare..but apparently i put together the money at least once.

I have an ammo can of misc cartridges from my dad that I think were bought in the late 80s and early 90s. I can check when I get home but I think the boxes of .22 are marked .75c. The bigger rounds seem like they have a larger price differential. A box of 20 winchester "white box" 30-06 is marked $5.99 I think.
