I have a set of sewer lids that I use as rollers
|
Richard, show them the BIG wheels.
|
My opinion.
18s are too big for 928s, proportions don't match. I like Cup IIs a lot which is what I will probably go with if I ever get mine done. D90s are nice too. Club Sport wheels are the balls though. I have a friend building a 450+hp 6.5L stroker and he plans on running 9x16s all around. I'm bringing these badly painted wheels back to original anodize at some point. I like the grooved detail around the wheel. and that they are forged. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510886341.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510886341.JPG |
Stock is the only way to go. Especially since the cars are getting old now, original restored look is where it's at...
|
Hey, Craig!
|
Hi Steve!!
|
The 996TT twists don't look too bad on them either, IMO:

What wheels don't you like, the phone dials
The phone dials aren't great, but they look ok (albeit dated) in this photo. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/d5/a3/79/d...t-porsche-.jpg Or the design 90s which are forged. I think the design 90s are nice looking. https://bringatrailer.com/wp-content...7/07/38-13.jpg |
The phone dials are fugly and the 90s look like cheap tin hub caps. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

It really puts me off from every wanting a 928. I don't think any other Sports car has ugly wheel arches like that. Can't think of any cool car that has em. |
Another thing that they completely got wrong, is the gear selector on automatic 928's.
How anybody could ever think that POS is acceptable in that otherwise very cool and nice lookign interior is beyond me. It's like a handle from a spade for your garden or something. Something agricultural https://rennlist.com/forums/attachme...orsche-004.jpg Not an issue to me, as i'de never buy an automatic, but many people did. And obviously felt they could live with it.. which i find weird. |
Here ya go...

I think looking at all these pics makes the wheels less ugly. (not that the wheels are ugly, take them off the car and they are fine). its kind of like the Seinfeld episode where the girl only looked good in the good booth or good lighting. the 928 wheels are ALWAYS in the ugly booth. I would like to see the phone dials in a bigger wheel on a car sitting lower than the one above. ride height hurts the one above, not to mention the VERY dated paint. some cars just don't look right with modern wheels. I have seen some old cameros with new wheels that don't look right. the large "disk" wheels with the short spokes are by far the ugliest they put on the car. sorry to those that have them. didn't Mercedes have a similar wheel? |
Someone made 18" phone dials. Very few pics of them on cars.

I agree that an 18" wheel looks way too big. Very few cars look good with more than a +1 wheel upsize, especially older cars which need some tire sidewall to look right.

Order of what they look good on; Lamborghini Countach Porsche 928 Porsche 924/944 Porsche 911 VW Beetle (air-cooled) I've seen some photos of phone dials on water cooled VW's, and it's not to my liking. Some phone dial-like stuff on 4WD trucks can look cool too. Oh and I just found these images: http://karmanneclectric.blogspot.com/2005/10/ http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5...n%20yellow.jpg The lower image RKDinOKC posted of the blue 928 with the five spoke is the best in my opinion. |
That is a great color blue, and those brakes are pretty GD big
|
The GTS brakes are the same as the 930's Big Reds. But are painted black instead of red and cost half as much. That red paint is expensive.
