928's and their ugly wheels.
i am always intrigued by the 928 and even though not hi on my list I wouldn't mind owning one for a while.
that said, what is it with this car and wheels? not only were the factory wheels ugly but it seems like what ever you put on there the wheels all of a sudden take on the ugly factor. look at the fuchs, I think that is one of the most beautiful wheels ever made, put them on a 928 and they just don't work. just saw a 928 for sale with aftermarket wheels. those wheels on anything else would probably make the car look good, on a 928, it just aint happnin. |
This sounds racist.

Not a fan of OE, but I like these:

hey the bottom one is getting there.
its the styling of the car. great looking car but wheels just don't work with it. unfortunately the body is extremely dated |
I have to agree with you to an extent. That car doesn't seem to lend itself to having good looking wheels. I bet Minilites would work...
|
I like later 928s with cup1s.
|
|
I would only have stock wheels on a 928 and I like the later models with the cup 1 wheels. I also like the Design 90's but would upgrade those to Clubsports which are forged, made by Fuchs, and look nearly identical to the Design 90's but wider.
|
Funny because 928 wheels are a common upgrade for the 944 guys.
IMHO the 928 looks too modern for the classic fuch wheels. |
The D90 and Cup wheels are decent. Turbo twists aren't bad either. I like them with the 996 Carrera Lightweight or the 997 Carrera III wheels.

Fuchs look like they belong on a bus. Oem 928 are pretty fugly too.
|
I would also add that I see a big difference between the S4 and the 928s prior. I can handle phone dials on an early 928, I think they work. On an S4, no thanks. Conversely, I can't handle modern looking wheels on an early 928.
|
D90s are about the only ones that work for me. To my eye, the 928 really demands some visible sidewall. Modern wheels with lower profile tires look ridiculous on a 928, regardless of the style of wheel.

Byron probably has some wheels he could trade you, just sayin'

I like the Carrera IIIs on my GTS. Like the D90's like the red one above. Had them on my 90GT. But they are 16s and the GTS needs 17s minimum to go over the front big brakes of the day.

Personally, I think the phone dials are the best and the only correct wheels for a 928.
|
Phone dials will only fit on the earlier 928. The S4, GT, and GTS need bigger than 15in wheels to fit over the front brakes.

Yours looks great by the way. |
Thanks. 3 years ago was offered twice what I paid for it. I still have it.
Tried to talk myself out of buying it for 2 weeks. Finally decided would never find another one that color, there were only 4 made. I like the wing and the GTS rear fenders too. Had had a red 90 928 GT before and regretted selling it even though I loved the new BoxsterS I sold it for. |
