the Craig Johnson - Longmire books
it is recommended that i read them in order? do the stories build off of each other?
i hate buying books..not for the $$ parts, but for the waste part. i try to grab them from the library if i can. but getting them in order is a *****. i'll happily buy them if i must.

I use Amazon reviews for stuff like this. I'm current finishing Jo Nesbo's The Redbreast. It is the third book in the Harry Hole series, but I found that it is the first book I need to read of the series to be up to speed.

I've read all 21 of the James Lee Burke/Dave Robicheaux series. I started in a random order with a 50/50 mix of Kindle and library. No really big downside to not reading in order as the author will fill you in on any pertinent info as it occurs.
FWIW, I've started to re-read in order, because I like the narrative so much. Amazing as to how new they still seem on the second read. Bill K

A bad memory is handy sometimes! I'm re-reading Lonesome Dove for the fiftieth time and it's still a hard book to put down!

The missus says that if possible, that would probably be best, but it's really not necessary.

Big Longmire & CJ Box's Joe Pickett series fan here...
In both series, there are some bigger themes & relationships that build as you read through the books. I'd say it's not crucial to read them in order, but if you can, some of the details and remarks might make more sense... But really, these are just fun reads, you'll get 90-95% there if you read them out of order. I think the Longmire books are way better than the TV series (although I've watched every episode!).

I've read them all and I would recommend that you read them in order. There are some things that happen, a few of them fairly significant, to some of the characters and reading them out of order would screw up a couple of the books.
Great books, by the way. |

Watched it on Netflix. Pretty good series. Didn’t care for the blonde ditzy deputy, all she did was push her chest out, and pose like a goofy model. No substance. Lou Diamond Phillips was outstanding as well as sheriff Longmire. Grid series overall.
