Need someone who can read an X-Ray
Wife's father, 85, slipped and has broken his hip. Not to get into the political relm, I'll go over that part in PARF, but the care in the regular hospital in Mexico is somewhere between neglect and outright disdain. Patients are expected to have a family member be around for the non-medical care (bathroom, feeding, hygiene, etc.).
I have a photo of the X-Ray and I just need someone to identify the type of break, and the US standard treatment. We may be moving him to private care. He fell on Wednesday afternoon. He didn't feel the pain until Thursday, and went into the Hospital on Thursday Morning. Spent the first 36 hours in the ER section, before being moved to a room. And no specialist is really going to see him until Monday. He is simply being treated for pain. PM or e-mail me if you can help.

This is all I have for now. I don't see any obvious break. And some family discussion about arthritis in the joint and it being pushed in further by the fall. So it might not be broken. Trying to get the side view.

I'm not an expert but it looks like an intertrochanteric fracture to me.

These are hard to read with the glare on my screen. Do you have a pic with the unaffected hip in the same shot?
I would be looking for the intertrochanteric fracture as well. Hard to tell. There is also a "groin lateral" x ray they take with a different angle on the subject. That would be nice. Is there any way to get any more detail/ contrast in the head of the femur area? Disclaimer- I am not an expert, but I did take a dental course in a holiday inn two days ago. Hoping the best for your dad. r Edit- now that the glare is off my computer screen, that looks broken to me. If that is a full on fracture, putting him in traction might help temporary pain. If is is broken, probably total hip replacement at his age. Perhaps they would try to pin it, but I don't know. Don't ask me how I know. Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 12-02-2017 at 10:30 AM.. |
