i went backpacking trout fishing with my wife.

the pressure to make sure we had everything was great. this was my wife's first foray into the California Sierra Nevadas. her first backpacking trip ever i kept her pack light, and carried the king's share of the gear. it was a good workout and i got to test out a new pack. (Mystery Ranch Metcalf)

at the trail head, i realized i may have forgotten a knife. haha. (Who would have thunk it?) i grabbed my truck backup..the Leatherman Fuse. i got the thing free when Leatherman sent a case of them to the SWAT team. (they hated them, i think because they were not black)

DAMN IT if i dont love that thing! i was pulling fish hooks out of trout with the pliers, cutting 2lb line with the scissors, and that knife is a razor..it would zip open fish with ease. i caught my first Cutthroat on that trip!!

ended up, i didnt forget a knife. i had a folder in the pack..but i never pulled it out. that leatherman was MVP. i was using it to pick up hot pots of crayfish. and cracking crayfish claws with it. not worth it for the tiny bit of meat.

now i want a new one. the Leatherman Charge Tii..i was shocked at the cost. $169!! maybe later.

any multitool guys here? i wouldnt EDC one..too bulky.

we are headed back at first thaw to try to catch the cutthroat spawn..that thing is a no brainer.

I keep one in my glove box. I have zero use for them at home or at work, in an emergency it's nice to have.

I just bought each of my two sons a Victorinox to keep in their glove box.

I have one in my truck and used it only once to cut the tag off my tee shirt as it was bugging the hell outta me. Its just takes up space. I suppose its a great tool in an emergency situation

I carry a Leatherman multi tool all the time unless going somewhere where "weapons" are not allowed. I have broke the blade 3 times and each time I sent it back and got a new one, no charge except my sending it by USPS.

I don't remember when I got it but it was so long ago it cost me only $50!

I have a couple of those things setting around somewhere. They're great tools, have great workmanship, lots of tool options. It's just that I never use them. In fact I don't even know where they are right now. If I want a knife, I get a knife. If I want scissors, I get scissors, If I want pliers, I get pliers. I actually never even used one when I would be up in the Sierras & carried on with me. Maybe if I had ever gotten into a situation where I was lost in the wilderness & had nothing but that tool, I'd get some use out of it.

Carry a Gerber multi-tool and a flashlight ALL the time.
One set on my work belt, and one on my personal belt.
Too many times have needed a screwdriver or pliers and had to go get one.
Not anymore!!!

I have a Gerber 3" lockblade knife, a AAA flashlight, and a tacticle pen with me at all times, along with my car keys on a couple of spring lock mountaineering loops.

I keep a complete "get home" bag in my car that includes a leatherman, and many other goodies.

i carry a swiss army knife (the FARMER) and a flashlight 100% of the time.

that flashlight has come in super handy..

It stays in my boat, and has come in handy quite a few times.

I've carried a Gerber, Leatherman and now SnapOn MultiTool on me all the time. Never know when you will need it and they are worth every penny.

I carry a Benchmade folder and Mini Leatherman in my pocket everyday without fail.

Buck Multitool in the truck, kayak, backpack, etc.

Leatherman MT in the range bag.

Full range of tools in a box mounted on the Grizzly 700.

Be prepared. Wouldn't that make a great motto?

I'm on a cattle ranch, I carry one of the less expensive Leatherman Wingman's. Pretty much use it every day in one fashion or another. It's important enough to me I bought a second one to put in the safe so I always have a extra. I recycled all my older multitools into all of my rigs and boats. Gerbers, SOG's. But always liked the newer Leatherman's best. The first gen not so much.

My ranch pocket knife is a Ontario Rat Model 1 with AUS 8 steel. So far in all my years with knives this has proved to be the very best for ranch work. Not so expensive if I loose it I don't flip out, but its darn good quality considering. Not to big not too small but just right. I also keep a extra one of those in the safe.

My Father has always carried one of the smaller ViceGrip pliers in a hand made, quick-draw sheath on his belt. Tried to get him to switch but no joy. Old dogs ect..-WW

I put in a request for a Leatherman Wave for xmas this year. We'll see. Ive had one of the originals for decades (?) and love it. Excellent quality that seems to have only gotten better over the years. I want this one for my sailboat. Dont need a whole tool box, and a leatherman will be the ticket for a lot of tool jobs.

I'm also a bit prejudiced after meeting Tim Leathereman - the founder of the company (now retired). You won't meet a more humble kind person.
As for the broken one (Varmint) send it back. They'll give you a new one no questions asked.

I broke mine like that. It's an older one they don't make any more, and I asked if they would fix or replace. On the phone they said replace, I sent it back with a note saying I really liked the tool set on mine, and would rather repair if possible, but replacing would be fine. It came back repaired and sharpened. Carry it everywhere but to bed, great tool, great company.

Stainless one in the boat. Good for odd jobs. Not a real tool. Nice that it won't rust.
