Typical mode of failure for battery is it just shuts off at an incorrect percentage. Way other electronic batteries, car batteries, household batteries you name it they all fail that way- the way it's always been.

This move by Apple mimics how outdated equipment runs and they should hang out to dry for this.

How else are they going to sell you a new phone?

They got sales goals you know!

The whole thing pisses me off to no end. It's not like the crap they sell is inexpensive. I'm off of apple this next round.

Until they return to the core principle of well thought out and working products with value there's no reason to pay the premium. They have sold out.

I'm not an Apple owner but was listening to a radio segment on this and the consensus was just to buy a new battery and the problem is solved. They also said Apple's design makes changing out a battery very difficult....

DIY you run a risk of breaking hte screen, and unless you have perfect eyesight and surgeon's hands you'll break something.

I tried it a few times and I'm like 1 and 3 with successful swap. Also, I dont think apple deserves to be bought for this anymore.

The product has lost its usability.

Swapping batteries in iPhones is cake.

Done a dozen.

If you have the correct tools and read the instructions beforehand the risk of breaking something is minimal.

That's why I always buy the iFixit parts.

You can get just the part or for a couple bucks more all the tools you need plus nice clear printed instructions because each model iPhone is different and each has it's own tricks.

Do I have a gadjillion jewelers screw drivers already, sure, but one thing about working on small electronics. New tools make it easier. I rarely see an Apple screw that does not have some sort of loctite from the factory. You want sharp new tools that wont slip and strip the screw head.

It costs all of $60 to have a new iPhone battery professionally installed.

I don't get 90% of the vitriol. Would you prefer your older iPhone with a degraded battery start suddenly shutting off and become unusable? This iOS feature allows older iPhones, whose batteries have exceeded their charge cycles, remain usable, albeit slightly slower.

I do get 10% of the criticism. Apple could have, in addition to slowing the iPhone to keep it functioning, had it display an alert advising that the battery needs to be changed.

A world wide boycott of Apple products would be fun. Nothing like teaching these *** a lesson in manners.

How about the phone simply telling you it is needing a replacement battery?

I would. It's would simple matter to diagnose and replace. Like filling the gas tank. This gives the impression the phone is outdated. It's a dirty tactic designed to sell hardware.

Apple in Akron wants $75.

I know I need one for my 6+. I think it's worth it because I have fat fingers.

I just retired my old 4S for an 8 for Christmas.

It’s like going from a model T to the space shuttle. Should have done it years ago.
