Put in notice of Retirement Today!
The Boss has known for several months that I'm going to retire soon.
Today he asked me gently if I truly plan to retire could I give him and HR a date, apparently he can't advertise for my replacement until I've given official notice. He made it very clear he wasn't pushing, and I could stay there until I die, if I wanted to. So I called HR and gave them the date of March 19, 2018. I must say, HR was amazing, within 1/2 hour they assigned me a retirement counselor; for pension, benefits, 401K, COBRA, etc. I'll be taking COBRA until I turn 65 nine months after I retire until I can draw Medicare. The Boss also said I can come back as a consultant with as much work as I'd like to take on. Several other Studios, Sony, Netflix, Warner Bros., Paramount and Universal have already offered to have me come on as a consultant. Retirement may not be as relaxing as I thought it would be, but at least I'll be in the enviable position of being able to pick and choose assignments. SmileWavy |
Congratulations Hugh. Sounds like a great deal for you. Enjoy the retirement and the part time consulting in the future.

Nice!
Congrats! |
Well done. Assuming you like the work, short term contract jobs sound great. You should have a good rate, stay sharp, get away... win.
Cool to hear they are so helpful, I dont think that happens very often. |
Well earned Hugh......Enjoy..

So envious!

I literally came to California from Boston with a BS in Environmental Science From UMASS, in 1979 with about $100 in 1979, I've done pretty well.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy....congratulations, Hugh!
The world is your oyster, sir.....SmileWavy |
Congratulations on a retirement well-deserved!

You're gonna be more busy being retired, than when you were working.

I’ll be approaching 2 years as a retiree when you’re lseparating from Disney. Retirement is, hands down, the best job ever. Congrats. SmileWavy

Congrats Hugh! It's great news you can work as much as you want - or not - after you retire. Be careful. There is an old saying that goes, "I don't know how & had the time to work before I retired." After being retired for 12 (or is it 13?) years, I've slowed down a lot and take it a lot easier now. But for five to seven years after retiring, I was still going full bore. You'll have to make the choice, which is something you didn't have before. Have fun!

Talk about a life and career well planned. Pretty sure my life ain't headed in that direction.

Congratulations on your retirement! Wishing you a happy, fun filled rest of your life.

Nicely done!
|
Well done Huge but it sounds like you'll be very busy.
Enjoy! |
Hugh ... you are my hero! When I grow up I want to be like you ... retired :)
|
A superbly groovy position. Congratulations!

After you retire you suddenly drive slower. You do everything slower as in what is the hurry. After all you have all the time in the world now. Where as before you had better hurry up cause you have to go back to work on Monday.
