After structured training with a lesser trainer for 2 years I bucked up and got a wahoo kickr last January.
Best biking fitness purchase I ever made. They sell refurbs every few months for ~$600, be sure and get a unit with direct drive. I tried a peloton spin bike at the mall, very not my thing. |

I ride an expresso bike at the gym most days, seems pretty similar to the peleton but with canned courses, not a virtual spin class. I like spin bikes better but the course software is keeps me interested. I really like the data collection. I'm always back and forth with another guy for fast laps, track mileage...
I see the commercials and think about it, hope it works out. I love spin class, if this simulates that it must be good. |

I am interested in hearing about why and what you like about it also.
I have ridden rollers for years as it sharpens your form on a bike while you are on the road. Its boring as hell. I have an old fluid trainer and that was used for about 6-7 times in the past 20 years I owned it. Also boring as hell. I have not ridden a trainer or rollers for 15 years now, but my riding has been limited due to family and work. People are telling me these smart trainers are the best for indoor winter work (I can ride year round here, but just don't have the time) and you can actually race against each other on screen. I bought one last year and its still in the damn box. I have to get it out sometimes and tell you guys all about it. |

I swear by my kickr January-March here. I actually get fitter in the winter than during the season, as the structured workouts are great. For the most part-1-2hrs. Once or twice a week I fire up a video of a great alpine route and go at it for an endurance ride...

As hard as I tried in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pole_Position_(video_game), the competition kept catching up.
I would take great risks, or none, but the result would be the same. I did not trust the machine from then. |

Back when I was bicycle racing the best thing was to get a set of "rollers" and learn to spin your road bike on them. The sprinters could get a cadence of 210 to 220 for long periods of time. Helps your balance too.

We ride trainers all winter. I hate it. BORING. When it did my tri bike fit on the GURU we were using Zwift. I liked it, but not sure I want to pop for a smart trainer to make something I hate a little better...

I have a Schwinn AC Pro spin bike. It has 172.5 cranks opposed to most spin bikes that have 170. I like it because I can set it up exactly like my road bikes and the computer does everything I need. Being in South Florida I can ride most of the time so the spin bike does not get used so much. I tried a Peloton and could not get past the 170mm cranks, I ride 175 on my bikes. But, I think the Peloton is a great motivator with the interactive features. As some have said, spinning is boring and I struggle to spin for an hour. If I lived in the cold I would do some kind of interactive training.

I have one, I love it! It's the only piece of exercise equipment I haven't used as a coat rack after a couple of weeks! The interactive nature really helps and it's a great cardio workout...I hate running, so for me this is fantastic. Some of the instructors are pretty hot too which doesn't hurt
![]() It's very well built also - have had it over a year and with a lot of use, no issues yet.

I have ridden a few other types of the these stationary bikes before but nothing comes close to the design and smoothness of this thing, but I will say, I think the biggest feature is the thousands of classes available to you at anytime and the app. (including live ones). Someone mentioned boring and that's exactly how I felt before when riding a bike at the gym or at home, but with these classes, they really push you harder than I ever came close to doing on my own. They have huge support groups on social media and leader-boards where you compare yourself to others and can ride against other riders etc. and all of those things make you go harder. The app tracks all of your rides in cadence, heart rate, calories, output, resistance, and miles ridden. You can also log in to your account at other gyms that have a peloton. It's really a huge community.
