Question For The Docs. Lump In Neck
Hi All,
Hope everybody had a great Christmas and New Year. My Question: Noticed a lump in the right side of my neck, down low, kinda where the neck ends and near the jugular vein. Went to the Dr and had an ultrasound (sonogram) and they couldn't really see anything but reported 'reactive lymph nodes'. Forward three weeks and I now have a small pea sized lump there that is really sore to touch and the surrounding neck area is sore to move as well. I have also noticed that I am sweating a lot more than usual and some nights my pillow is quite damp. I had a blood test this morning (results Tuesday) and another ultrasound tomorrow. Also noticed last night in the shower a couple of pea sized lumps in the groin. Are these worrisome symptoms? I'm a bit worried I may have a battle ahead. Cheers Scott

Scott,
I am not a doctor but I do know swollen lymph nodes can occur due to an infection in your system. It appears you are doing the right thing and getting yourself checked out. I hope it all turns out well for you.

This is one of those times that you can drive yourself mad self (and peer) - diagnosing online . . . maybe impossible not to, but it really is best to avoid doing that.

You're doing the right things. Yes, get the tests and try your best not to worry too much.

Sounds like you have an infection.

You can massage the glands. The lymph system is like a drainage canal with lots of storm drains. You want to get them unblocked. If you aren't moving around a lot, or are stuck at a desk, ordinary muscle motion won't be enough to help with the drainage function.
If you do have an infection, this will only help. Lots of info on the internet about this. |

With children in a western context, swollen lymph glands are almost always a sign of a healthy immunsystem reacting to benign infections.
With adults and particularly the elderly I have less knowledge but at older age, statistically, the origin of swollen glands may be caused by other kinds of diseases that may need investigation, as you have embarqued on.

It sounds like you think your symptoms might line up with those of lymphoma.

The lump I had in my neck years ago did not hurt, and appeared over a period of about a week. Mine was an effected lymph node from stage III Hodgkins desease, which was part of a much larger undetected mass in my chest.
Don't delay having tests done, most likely it is nothing serious, but don't take that gamble. |

And stop getting diagnosis from car guys on a Porsche forum. Common sense says it’s cold and flu season and your lymphatic system is doing its job. Get it checked out and move on.

If it gets swollen enough it will trigger more frequent, and more intense, headaches.
I lived with a lump on the left anterior side of my neck for 25 years to the point where the headaches became too hard to deal with. Turns out the lump was impeding blood flow to the brain. Outpatient surgery, awake for the whole procedure lying on my stomach. Prior to the removal, when I messaged it, it felt like a dime, but the autopsy said it was 50 cm (almost the size of a half dollar.) I will always remember the CLUNK it made when the doctor dropped it in the emesis basin. Sorry I waited so long. Bill K Edit: I'm not offering medical advice, just relating some information that you might find helpful as you move forward.
