My local news "bimbo"....
Not a news person at all...just someone with "a background in physchology"... she's on most mornings...what a pile of poo. Her in depth anslysis of the Grammy performer's body language (her forte)...well...nevermind
![]() She's saved me a bundle on office visits the past couple of years though....so I give her credit for that ![]() Anybody else got a shrink like mine? |

local news is a miserable, thankless industry. had a buddy that ran the cameras for a local news station years ago and i got some insight into how things work. utterly awful. just can't bring myself to dislike someone who is struggling through that mess.

Years ago I knew a pilot who flew one of the local news helicopters. He stated with just trying get his job done and the producer back at the station constantly barking orders in his ear he finished up each flight with self imposed scream therapy.

I used to work with some folks whose spouses were local tv personalities and I got to tour the studio and watch some live broadcasts. It was pretty interesting stuff. I know of one CNN anchor who left CNN to go to that local affiliate for a giant pay raise. So it can be lucrative. But once social media took off, reporters were getting fewer and those who remained had more beats to cover. So you don't see a lot of them with expertise in an area they're known for, and they get spread kind of thin.

My first cousin is an on-air person for local news. She's worked in Macon, GA; St. Louis, MO; and Milwaukee, WI. I know her parents supported her financially right up until she got married as her pay (less than what a full-time waitress can make) didn't support her lifestyle. (They basically subsidized her career for the first ten years.) My take on the local news market is that it is similar to the regional pilot market: you have a ton of people working for ridiculously low wages because it may earn them a shot at the "big time". My understanding is that only the people who do local news in LA, Chicago, and New York make a decent living, and of course there are the national news programs whose anchors get pay 8 figures.

I do, as a heritage interpreter at North America's only tidal power plant.
Unlike the folks doing news, I don't have to find new things to draw in viewers each day. On the other hand, topics can range from how electricity is generated and distributed to history of the area, fish migration climate change, whatever. We have over 12,000 visitors in 150 days . Great fun. Best Les

I have a cousin whose ex-father in law was the anchor man for one of the local stations in Sacramento. What a piece of work he was. The kind of guy that could do with a good punch in the face.

A few years ago there was a very very hot weather girl named Maria Gennaro on the local news. Always looked forward to hearing her report!!! It was usually something like "We are going to get heavy rain or maybe not".

Be careful Vash, if your Espanyol gets to good you will understand what they are talking about and it will take the fun out of watching.
