I want to overhaul the entire Airline Industry to make it more user-friendly.
My dumb brain doesn't understand and is not able or willing to learn beyond a certain point of systemic stupidity. I usually fail the realistic sim test with heavys. Warning systems: -When flaps are down above maximum speed.....why does the fkng Main Warning Light Button flash and beep? -That could indicate any number of control failures. Or a flight condition. -Two systems mixed. It's confusing. Especially under stress. -WTF is happening? -Why doesn't the Flaps Light indicate instead? A more intuitive feedback system? -Let the Pilot identify the specific problem. Switches: -All dash switches should be grouped according to function: Fuel. Air. Electric. -Color-code the dash. -Color code, or notate, ALL switches needed for typical proceduree: Landing requires flaps lights pumps for go-arounds etc. -Critical switches are closest to the pilot and easy to reach. -Critical switches such as Mag/Fuel should be double-protected with an extra procedure or a tactile surround. Are U sure? -Perform tests to find out and prioritize what pilots need to do in an emergency. -Organize accordingly. Refencing a cough common U.I. glass-copckpit company cough: -AIRSPEED IS CRITICAL!!! -It is flight itself... -Because the ass of any heavy with fly-by-wire is quite numb in a hurricane -So why TF is this information displayed using a small sliding scale squashed into the small left side within a complex menu? -Same with crtical decent rates. (Separate from actual aircraft AOA but more important) -The information is very hard to read in a pinch. -It should be big numbers at the top. -Put it in 12" letters right in the center of the windscreen. Airports: -Runways should have flashing marker lights indicating direction. AND BIG NUMBERS. -Color-coded industry standard. -Lighter colors North or South or East or West. Whatever works. The Sun is to the south in the northern hemisphere. -It should be uniform in all countries.... Taxiway markings to find port/parking/hanger/rest area/services: (where do I even begin) -Every major runway should have a count-down numerical system to last exit. -GA? Or take a spot from United/Sprint/Delta? Ground crew might be confused. -When landing, how about count-down signs to the last possible diversion to taxi? 4.3.2.1 -Blue lights. Yellow lights. White lights. -How about a touchdown box? -Taxiway is marked 3F. New airport. What do that even mean? Where does this road even lead to? -How about a visual warning on the taxi strip before crossing a fk'g runway?
