Getting my Grandfather's 1956 Desktop clock to work

He got it for a retirement gift in 1956, hasn't run for at least 40 years. My Dad had it for years and it just quit, about 40 years ago. Took it out of the wood case, and sprayed brake cleaner in it, then dry teflon lube spray (didn't disassemble it). It been running now for about 8 hours and is less than a minute off, (fast!) it has a slow and fast adjustment which I'll play with, it even has an alarm, that works.

It cost me about one hour of my time. I'm pleased, my wife thinks its "nice" but a "silly" project.

I decided (wisely) not to refinish it. You can see the wear at the 1-2 hours mark where it looks like my grandfather/father probably picked it up in the middle of the night with their thumb to check the time.

I think it’s a beautiful little clock Hugh. The fact it was your grandfathers makes it all the more special. Anyways, I’m a sucker for old time pieces.

Super, that you got it working. Something to hold onto and pass along to another family member some day. You had a very good day, I think.

Nice clock. If its a paper face be careful not to get lubricant on it will stain it.

Very cool, Hugh. Unfortunately, I don't have much stuff from either of my grandfathers. I have a couple of items from each, but nothing that I can have sitting out to see daily like that. Enjoy!

Nice Hugh! Very cool.

I have an old pocket watch of my Grandfathers that I need to get working one day.

Brilliant stuff. You guys should be commended for keeping your family history alive.

A lot of people simply don't bother and when a family member passes away everything is up for sale.
A woman I know sold ALL of her mothers clothes, including her mothers wedding dress just after she died.

Atleast she sold it. Usually people just get a dumpster
