I had never heard of AUD before today. I guess the shrink's "bible" is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) - from the post above - very interesting:

Drinking more or for a longer period of time than intended.
Feeling incapable of cutting back on the amount of alcohol consumed.
Becoming sick for an extended period of time as a result of drinking too much.
Inability to concentrate due to alcohol cravings.
Inability to care for a family, hold down a job, or perform in school.
Continuing to drink despite problems caused with friends or family.
Decreased participation in activities which were once important.
Finding oneself in dangerous or harmful situations as a direct result of drinking.
Continuing to drink despite adding to another health problem, feeling depressed or anxious or blacking out.
Drinking more as a result of a tolerance to alcohol.
Experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

If you have at least two of these symptoms, this indicates the presence of an alcohol use disorder. Whether you have a mild, moderate, or severe AUD depends on how many of these symptoms you experience.

Mild: Two to three symptoms
Moderate: Four to five symptoms
Severe: Six or more symptoms

I'd be concerned if I didn't feel sick after consuming too much.

How about having a cop wake you up the next morning after passing out on someone's front lawn? Near the hedges , though. On the upside it was a really nice crib.

He did not quite pass as a garden gnome. Booze alone. No drugs.

The fruit of my loins.

Three weeks now in a lock down rehab facility. Six months.

I brought him a care package. They kicked back the body wash because it has alcohol in it.

Not really. Just no sense in discussing it if the person feels everything is just fine and dandy. Ultimately it is your choice.

Bumping this back up after 8 months or so. Curious to hear how everyone who had some concerns is doing.

When I was on AD, the answer to the doc was always 2-4 oz/week...anything more got you "hard looks". Now (retired) I find that beer adds to the gut, and hard liquors are enjoyed in "moderation". However, I do enjoy wine (fruit of the summer) a couple times a week, and imbibe more with the scotch/burbon/brandy with visitors. I found I can easily drop 5-10 pounds by limiting alcohol consumption especially by avoiding beer. Limiting the wine is a harder proposition....next, working on the cigars.

Feb 4.

I think I’ve had 20 beers since then. Zero hards, maybe two glasses of wine. It was easier than I thought.

Next on the hit-list. Sugar.

Like most, I drank a little bit during college, but stopped after a year and don't miss it. I do enjoy a bitter beer now and then actually, like it a lot. This year, I had four beers. All were social drinks during dinner. Last year, I had one. I tell people, I don't drink only because I just don't care for it. I haven't had a shot of the hard stuff in more then 8-10 years.

Sugar shouldn't too hard, but the carbs will kick my ass. Yes, I like rice and pasta.

I ditched 20 lbs in two months by cutting out 85-90% of carbs and ate smaller portions. Oh yeah, I rode about 100 total miles a week, hard like I always have. Then my kids wanted pineapple fried rice and loco mocal. I had a big dish of both and fell off the wagon and gained 12 lbs back. Feeling like a fatty again in my tight jersey

Sugar is a curse, but worse are the artificial sweeteners. I TRY to avoid the sweets and consciously avoid them, but not as religiously as I should.

I have been drinking beer since before legal age and I'm now 60 soon to be 61 . That German heritage is a tough one to fight . Last year and most of this year I was building my 2 car man cave . Most of the work this year was in sweltering temps and humidity and I was pounding beers daily . Not proud of that it's just a fact . Many days would put away a 12 pack . About 3 months ago I decided I needed to slow the train WAY down and since then only have 2-3 beers on Friday night which is date night with the little lady . Have not had a single beer during the week since . I have lost 16 lbs. so far and my blood pressure is getting better and my gut is slowly going away . Do I miss it you bet but I have cut it off before I would NEED it . My man cave fridge now has ice tea and flavored water in it ............ what a wuss I have become

I lost about 40 lbs several years ago. As of a few days ago I had gained 15 back. I've done a pretty good job of changing my diet for the better, but have a taste for good beer that's just killing my weight. So as of yesterday I'm going back to light beer, and less of it. I bought new clothes when I lost the weight, and dammit I'm not getting bigger sizes again!
