Ahhh, racing is back in 2018!
After months of nothing except WRC (thank you red bull TV app), we got some racing back...
Indy at St Pete was not bad at all... Great to see some sliding, Wickens doing great, and my guy Bourdais got lucky ! Too bad about the last racing lap but it happens... Also amazing WRC event in Mexico, with the return of Loeb who led the damn rally after being out for 4 or 5 years - he's a beast... I missed good racing ! (still too many yellow flags in indy but beggars can't be choosers, I enjoyed that) |

Yes! I like the new Indy cars. "Let's see some driving skill, boys!"

Indycars? Significantly less downforce (~1200 lbs in short oval trim) and more proportionately from the undertray. Higher top speeds and less stable under braking.

Spoiler, I talk race details here.
This was the first race I've been able to watch this season, and it was a good one! Especially considering it was on a street course. Tho not known for allowing much passing, there was plenty of passing happening. Scott Dixon got sent to the back of the grid, yet finished In the top ten. The new cars don't rely on downforce as much so can follow more closely and are in position to pass more often. Plus they do look better too! I thought that Rossi should have been penelized for that last lap move where he dove to the inside of the Rookie, who gave him room. Then Rossi slid off the line into Wickens, got punted out of the front of the pack. A shame for him to get third and Wickens to end up at the back. Very mature skilled drive by Wickens! I do like Rossi, just don't think it right that he finish so far ahead of the leader who he punted out. These new cars may give us some of the best racing this season. It's too bad that The Indy series has so many Ovals on the schedule, otherwise it would probably be the series to watch. Cheers Richard Last edited by tevake; 03-11-2018 at 05:20 PM.. |

I think Rossi just saw the opportunity and wasn't thinking much about the paint stripes. I'd call it a "racing incident". If the runway markings hadn't been there, there would have been no incident.

Not relying on down-force will cause more "pack racing" (remember Dan Weldon?).
The rear bumpers were ugly as sin but they did keep the cars on the road with minor collisions. It will be interesting. The good news is that this type of racing will showcase the driver more than the car.
