It's small. It's fast. It's orange.
My newest addition to the collection, a 2007 VW GTI Fahrenheit, number 428/1200. I just picked it up yesterday. What a blast to drive!

Specs?

2.0L turbo engine. 6-speed DSG transmission with paddle shifters. It's chipped and puts out 220 HP. European sport-tuned suspension. VW made 1200 in 2007, all the same color, Fahrenheit orange, a Porsche color. It's a tribute to the initial steps in 2007 to form a merger with Porsche. They sold about 500 in the US. I have #428. It would have been cool to get #451. In case you're wondering, it has 89,000 miles, is in top mechanical condition, and cost me $7500. It also has a new, awesome sound system. I think it's a pretty good deal for a car with a bit of rarity to it.
|
That's cool. Is interior tartan? Does it torque steer? I used to experience that with a Mazdaspeed I used to have.
Do they have fahreinheit GLIs? I thought I saw one in Monterey last week Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk |
It has very nice black leather seats. No torque steer. Yes, they made Fahrenheit GLIs too.
|
Very cool, Charlie....congrats!
Love the sunroof! Bet that baby is a total blast to drive with the way it's set up. :) Love the VW station wagons....every last one of them no matter what year or what model....they're in a class by themself! |
Love it! Congrats, looks fun!
|
Very cool! Congrats.
|
BTW.....I'm thinking this car will "appreciate" over time instead of the other way around - because of it's unique qualities. Just keep it pristine and all original, of course.

Wow, that is cool, quick, and the price seems pretty darn good!
|
Nice!
|
Yes, it was the 6th quickest car in its price class. Other reviews I read from 2007 mention how other cars like the Mazdaspeed are faster off the line. But the reviews said the extra power of those other cars compromised their handling. Think torque steer, as mentioned above. They said the GTI was better balanced, handled much better, and was more fun to drive. Not a bad tribute to Porsche.
|
Kewl!!! That looks like fun!
|
It's funny, that weighs about as much as my 928, which was vilified when it was new for being so portly.
That is a great car. |

Times change. Still a nice car.

Kinda the same, but different - I bought a '16 Golf R a month and a half ago... LOVE IT.
Your car is WAY more bang for the $$$, considering the price delta between the two. And I dig the orange. I test drove a newer GTI, but decided I couldn't give up AWD for the 4-6 days a year that I really need it. It was an expensive decision for sure, but gotta say that the R is pretty fun to drive; enough so that I'm wondering if I'm going to be parking my Porsche more often during the summer months... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522009278.jpg |

Looks like a blast. Especially for 7500! I saw one today... have never noticed them before.
|
Very nice Charlie!
I almost bought one when I picked up my gti, but I really needed the 4 door version I’m up to 140k on mine now, 100k being miles I put on her. I love this car and hope to keep for another 100k They are just such a blast to drive and it makes my commute bearable. You’re going to have so much fun in this through the Santa Cruz mountains. Using the the paddle shifters or sport mode is a kick when downshifting into a corner and it rev matches. Enjoy! |

I just sold off my 2005 JCW Mini Cooper S for the same price 210 HP 2600 lbs and a hoot to race around in. Kind of wish I could have kept it, but do not have the room and we needed something really economic.
I keep thinking I need to get another FWD fun car again in the future, they are a blast. How is the understeer in your VW? If you get any look into a tighter rear sway, I did it to the two Mini's I owned and that simple change dialed out most of the understeer. My first JCW had coil overs too and I t would actually oversteer, it was a great car to drive with your right foot at its limits. Enjoy! Oh and I think it is ugly too but I think it is the angle of the photo, I normally admire VW GTI /Golfs. |

and it isn't really fast either! :D But seriously, no bump steer? Have you had it in a performance driving situation, such as an autocross or a serious canyon carve? It definitely makes a unique daily driver. I am a hot hatch fan. The most fun you will have in an economic and practical vehicle. G |
I've only had it two days so haven't had chance to really test it yet. I did go around a freeway cloverleaf very quickly and it was very stable.
|
Im a hot hatch fan too. My Cli 172 Cup was was 1035 Kg, much lighter and smaller than the Golf, which in the UK is considered too big and fat to be really chuckable.
My current '06 Smart ForFour Brabus is under 2400 pounds, and is tuned to 210 BHP in a 145 inch long car. |
This thread made me hit the classifieds. It isn't that easy to find a nice GTI.

Most of the MK5 GTI's in my area area have over 120,000 miles on them for about $7K to $8K. Also, I heard that the fuel pump cam follower should be changed every 20,000 miles. At least it is a cheap and easy replacement. How to change Fuel Pump Cam Follower on 2.0 TFSi - page 1 - How to Guides / Troubleshooting - MK5 Golf GTI |

I thought hard about these as a replacement for my boring Honda, but was put off by the expected maintenance needs (compared to the Honda, which spoiled me); I ended up buting a 32-year-old Saab instead and *not* replacing the Honda so obviously my decision-making process is unorthodox. But I still am drawn to these. I could live with the DSG - I've driven one and it's a great two-pedal box.

Kachi 22, I said my car is tuned to 210 BHP and I have the dyno sheet. It has a log header set, freer flowing exhaust, improved intake pipe from turbo, and a remap by one of the foremost Mitsubishi tuners. The forfour is a completely different car from the ForTwo. It uses the front wheel drive Mitsubishi Colt platform, with plastic panels on a completely different body frame, and the BRABUS uses a completely different engine from the 1300 and 1500 forfours, although it is also a 1500.The 1500 diesel versions use a 3 cylinder derivative of the 4 cylinder 2 litre diesel used in the old Mercedes A series.
The BRABUS is quite rare for a modern car, only 1284 were sold worldwide. |
Wow, that is awesome looking. Great car, love the color.
|
Is that the same color that Porsche used for a SE Boxster they made a while back? I wonder if same year and not just a coincidence.
|
I have something that's small, fast and orange too!
