anybody have experience with Little Snitch?

It shows attempts by software to 'report back' online (Adobe).

A friend put it on a Macbook of mine, and that stopped Adobe CS4 from phoning home.

Welcome to my world of pain owning a small instaprint company.
Sure it's the cost of doing business, but with multiple computers the cloud will kill we when I have to give in.

Still using PS Elements 4.0 on my 10 year old MAC. Am not looking forward to updating anything. I like the way things are right now on my old stuff. Hard to teach this old dog new tricks.

You will love the speed of a new computer. 64 bit operating systems, lots of ram and a fast CPU with multiple cores makes a real difference in speed.

Little Snitch works as advertised but can be a royal pain in the ass while it learns what it should let pass or not.

Easier to just edit your hosts file and send all Adobe requests to localhost.

Yeah I woulda done Virtual Box as well.

Shaun does not need he advanced bells n whistles that come with Parallels or VMWares offerings.

Are you comfortable using a terminal emulator?

Hit your spotlight icon upper right, the magnifying glass, start typing Terminal, when it pops up launch it.

type sudo nano /etc/hosts

it'll ask for your password, enter it

Nano is a command line file editor, https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Nano/Basics_Guide

You'll be shown your current hosts and where they resolve to in Terminal window.

Use your down arrow key to get to a blank line.

Copy / paste the known list

Control (NOT COMMAND), Control X should bring up the Nano save Y or N

EDIT: When you see the list of known phone homes you'll understand why little snitch can be a pain until it learns. In concept it's really just creating a hosts block list, rerouting everything back but asking you to confirm each one.

Finally have three computers completely up and running. New iMac is awesome and successfully erased and installed Mavericks on my old MBPro and iMac so they are now pretty fast for what I need them for. Huge amount of work in the end but worth it. Had to buy and old Magic Mouse 1 for the MBPro, Mavericks wouldn't recognize the new Mouse 2 I had allowing for critical finger scrolling in images. And lots of other little things I won't bore you with.

In other news, I read the letter from QuickBooks better. After May I won't be able to us QB15 and do payroll and talk to my bank, both of which are critical for me. It's not that QB won't support 15 for these tasks, they are pulling the functionality. So **** you QB, I'll shell out the $200 for 18.

Quick note on Parallels. The reason I got Parallels now is I got it when I needed it running a custom MS Access app I wrote for Traveler Kids invoicing and inventory management. QB was secondary. So for me, Parallels is the devil I know and easy to reason that the $100 for Parallels that works perfectly is cheap compared to something I have no idea how to use, will it be bulletproof like Parallels, etc.

There was a time when I needed more money than time. Now it's the exact opposite. And I make a lot more $ with more time than anything else.

In conclusion, Adobe and QuickBooks are greedy ****s and suck. And life is good here at Tru6 World Headquarters with 3 computers and a new assistant.
