I've seen ZZ a couple of times, once with the big expensive set during the MTV days, and once where they just had a couple of Tiki huts off the sides that Frank and Billy walked out of and started to play, no theatrics, just a minimal light show, nothing to distract from the music.... Both times I had fun, because it looks like they have fun. |

Saw them at the strawberry festival in 83
Great show They will be headlining the midstate fair in Paso Robles in June with George Thorogood BTW, the drummers last name is Beard (the only one that doesn’t have a beard) |
Three man bands have always ruled when they're good...
Jimi Hendrix Experience Grand Funk Railroad Cream ZZ Top Rush Police Emerson Lake Palmer And on the lighter side Crosby Stills Nash (Although it's almost elevator music) Showing my age... |

I would also add Genesis and James Gang..... |
I have been a big ZZ Top fan since Tres Hombres came out. We have seen them live and it is nice to hear La Grange at the proper volume, 11. ;)

Billy Gibbons plays a very good guitar!

Not only are these guys great players with an endless catalog of good material, they are showmen in the old-fashioned sense of the word. You really owe it to yourself to see them at least once. I've been attending their concerts for more than 40 years and there's nobody quite like them. What Billy Gibbons can do with a guitar goes beyond what you hear in his recordings.
In the last decade, they have played a lot of small houses and ticket prices for those shows are cheap, compared to just about any other band. They've been around about 50 years, I don't know how much longer they will continue to tour. See them now, if you can. |

They came to town a few years ago. It was one of the best concerts! They definitely love playing, when the show was over, they did an oncore of about 10 songs. It just went on and on and was fantastic.
|
In their encores, sometimes they'll do an old Jimi Hendrix or Led Zeppelin tune. I have to say, they do them better than the originals.

They bad....they're nationwide... |
i'll be at the june 23 show. john fogerty will be with them. looking forward to it. seen just about everyone except these guys
|
The only downfall of the concert that I went to was the opening band, who was Joan Jet. At the end of her very nice set, she gave a 5 minute lecture on being vegetarian and ultimately got booed off stage.

Saw Dusty in Cleveland airport in the 90's. He was surrounded by about five fans. Nodded and he responded in kind. Sweet. |
I met Billy at a hot rod show in Pomona. He signed my La Grange CD. It gives me perma grin thinking about it.
His book, Rock + Roll Gearhead is one to look for too. |
