refilling the 1lb camping propane bottles?

i hate the waste of the empties. i usually shoot a hole in them and put them in the recycle can. i do rarely use the can since i bought the adaptor hose to run most of my stuff on a big 20lb bottle.

i just got an email notice. i can turn in two empties and they will give me a free refillable bottle. i was just saving a bunch of empties for the next shooting session. (i think i could use a hardened rock-pick to punch a hole safely).

i just spent way to many minutes watching videos on how to refill them.

i cant think of what is different between the refillable ones and me simply refilling the regular one.

I use an adapter hose as well. I think it cost maybe $10 from Menards. Much cheaper than buying cases of the teeny cylinders. With that said though, hiking with 1lb cylinders sure beats a 20lb one with an adapter hose so I do keep one or two around.

Will the free refillable bottle come filled with propane? Or are you just getting the bottle?

Sounds like you just get the bottle.

Help a bro understand. Do you fill the 1lb tanks fed by a 20 lb tank?

Nope, I just connect the appliance (hibachi, torch and Mr Heater) directly to a 20lb tank instead of a 1lb cylinder. Bypass the cylinder all together. This is what I use:

Although they do make fittings that allow you to refill 1lb cylinders yourself. I haven't tried one as I rarely need the small cylinders but have heard they do work once you get the hang of it. Worth it I suppose if you go through a lot of them.

I understand better from the link. Thank you.

That little schrader valve on the one pound tanks must be for venting when filling.

You can buy that tank hardware at most Walmart's.

Standard 5 propane tank, the adapter and the refillable bottle, you're as green as can be.
