Brought the Speedster home today

We brought our truck home a couple of days ago. I was going to follow Mrs WD in our Tundra but she couldn't get the hang of driving the truck. Teaching Mrs WD to drive vs teaching me to dance In all these years she's never been interested in learning, so she followed in the Tundra pulling a trailer - her second most unwanted driving experience. She does drive our Speedster now and then, but this was a 60 mile trip on I-70. Again, she wasn't keen on driving the car while I followed, so I drove the Speedster to our new home. I admit, being in the center lane at 75 mph with trucks on your right, left, and in front was a bit unsettling - like driving in a moving canyon and you never know when the walls are going to collapse on you. My eyes were about even with the tops of the tires on the trucks. They looked HUGE.
We arrived home and I was all grins, but Mrs WD was sobbing. She was frightened by the sight of me and that tiny car doing battle on the highway with the trucks - sure I was going to be crushed at any moment - not to mention being nervous about following in a loaded pickup with a loaded trailer behind.
For me - for the most part I had a great time. I laugh out loud every time i get in this car. It can accelerate like a motorcycle up to about 100 mph. Squirting through traffic is a hoot in this thing (it weights less than a ton with me and a full tank of gas on board).
Our Speedster won't be living in the rec room for a while, but we will be driving and enjoying it a lot more these days.

Offer accepted as written

Had to d some work on the brakes before coming home and left the front hubcaps off.

Awesome...knew you had one but I think that is the first time I have seen a pic of it.

Sounds like you are getting settled in to the new home.

You are a lucky, lucky man, Patrick. You've worked hard, you're smart and you've taken advantage of the good breaks in life and it's time to enjoy the siht out of yourself with Mrs Patrick.

That little Speedster is a gem! (Looks like the one Eddie Murphy drove in 48hrs!)

Sorry your wife had such a stressful drive.
Hopefully you will have interesting winding back roads in your new area to enjoy that beautiful Speedster.

Best

They ARE HUGE!! Have the same experience occasionally on IH10 (the notorious Katy Freeway). Nothing but a mass of 18 wheelers, big pickups and a mix of everything else moving 75+. Will make you paranoid.

Great looking Speedster WD, you done good as they say.

Amen to that! Though I can sympathize with looking over and seeing the hubcaps of a semi at eye level, pretty intimidating. Much better on the back roads. Awesome car Patrick!

I bought my 356C from a person in Ft. Lauderdale and took a Greyhound bus down to pick it up.

I drove her back up I-95 and couldn't believe how low the RPM's were at 70-80MPH and how fantastic she maneuvered between traffic - especially in the lower area of I-95 those who know it can attest to how congested it gets - I think sections of it are 4-laned if I remember correctly - this was back in '05.

These tubs run like little sewing machines!

Gorgeous Speedster, Patrick....drive 'em!

If you're coming across I-70 you HAVE to stop in. We are 8 miles south of I-70, near the Ohio/Indiana border. Breakfast, lunch, dinner - whatever time of day it is. If you are near a stopping point plan to spend the night.

As you noted, coupes and cabs just loaf along in 4th gear. Porsche put a low numerical ratio gears in the fourth gear for coupes - BBBC or BBBD gear sets. (The higher the letter, the lower the numerical ratio). Speedsters got BBAB gears because they were expected to be raced. My Speedster is slower than my coup in 4th. In other words, to get up to 70 in the Speedster I'm doing about 4000 rpm, while at 70 mph in the coupe the engine is turning about 3500. Driving the Speedster at speed it sounds like you're being chased by a swarm of angry bees.
edited to change 6500 to 3500 rpm.

I suppose be sports cars are all I've ever owned this is just completely normal for me.

Sometimes with the windows down I do contemplate "if he had a blow out I'd get smacked in the head".

There was a time it was a lot more frequent to see blow outs for 3-4 years, not sure why.
