Margarine?! Hell no, never in my house. Unsalted butter or olive oil. Canola oil, sesame oil, coconut oil.

Yeah, I have to think that margarine is not good for you. And I think the whole "butter is bad for you and processed vegetable oil (that's probably often hydrogenated) is good for you is also crap. Studies have been done and shown that the fat that you eat has very, very little to do with your cholesterol levels. The vast majority of the cholesterol in your body is made by your liver (or kidneys? Or something like that).

You need fat in your diet, it helps with so many body functions including brain function. Just choosing healthy fats is the key. No one is going to convince me a ensemble of chemicals are better for you than something natural.

We eat really clean in our house, all our protein is locally sourced non gmo no antibiotics. Same goes for our produce, eggs etc.... We hit our local Green Market every Sunday and spend a decent amount there on our food for the week. Actually about the same as going out 2 nights a week for dinner.

We do not drink soda and I am somewhat of a hypocrite because I do drink Beer and Whiskey which sometimes draws protest from the wife if I am hitting either too hard.

I am no expert, I follow the lead of my wife. She is the one doing all the reading and researching.

clarified butter is not as tasty as regular butter... it's just for cooking..

We keep Ghee on hand for cooking.

For others not familiar with clarified butter which is a version of Ghee, you can read up on it here.

I even bailed on booze recently. :(

Switched a few years back, only real butter, local fresh meat, whole milk, coconut oil for cooking, pink sea salt, and handcracked peppercorns. Leave that processed crap for others on a strict budget.

My wife was having food alergy problems that seem to be cured now.

well done Ckelly.

i buy my butter from Costco. the unsalted stuff. i wrap it up and freeze it and deal it out as needed.

it's good to have around if the need to bake something creeps up. i dont use it much anymore..i should probably not buy from costco anymore.

Butter only. It's real. Just use it in moderation, like most everything else.

Margarine over butter any day of the week. It tastes so much better.... Better for you too.

The research I've seen indicates these two statements are completely false. But don't take my word for it, spend some time researching the effects of PUFAs on the body. SmileWavy

I only eat it butter from the pack with a teaspoon, soup spoon obviously would to much of a good thing.
But i have to maintain good pace tho, other wise my cat jumps in and steals me butter, he's a fiend for butter.

Then it wasn't fully clarified butter yet, there should be no solids that can drift on clarified butter.

I know, it was the process used to get from butter to just liquid at room temp.

The prep cooks set it out and then skimmed it between lunch and dinner.

My understanding is margarine will be banned in Canada later this year.
Just saying ....

If it is salted butter we leave it in the covered butter dish on the counter so it is nice and soft and spreadable.

I thought the idea that margarine was better than butter was disproven 20 years ago.

My Grandmother said margarine became popular during the war because it was easier and cheaper to make, store, transport, ect.

To me, it tastes like thick oil.

Where did you hear that nonsense?

silverc4s 05-15-2018 04:12 PM

Brummell & Brown spread. I like it as well as butter in most applications.

When I have time..I slice butter and use a Smoking Gun to infuse hickory or mesquite flavor into the butter...Yummy!
A ziploc bag works a lot better than what the guy in the video is doing.
