Price of Lumber gone up?
Price of Lumber gone up?
I started re-decking my car hauler last fall. Ran out of desire and good weather. But I called a couple places to get prices for 2' X 8" X 16' spruce, needed 11 of them. Was quoted $174 and $178 from lumber places. (+ taxes) Last week I went and picked up the wood from the place that gave me the cheaper quote. The bill came to $219 +taxes. I contemplated asking the high school senior at the cash register if prices had gone up but figured why bother. Never heard of anyone complaining about a increase so I'd figure I'd ask here? ![]() What $219 + taxes worth of lumber looks like. While It's stripped down I'm adding more steel under supports. Instead of 24" OC it will be 12" OC That way I can haul a more compact weight like a bobcat.

Always a seasonal adjustment.........More housing starts these days also increases demand. I knew a builder that sometimes ordered his lumber package early winter and stored it till spring....

I have seen a lot more Canadian lumber used on large projects like this lately.
![]() In the past, buildings like this were made of concrete and steel. Maybe supply isn't keeping up with demand? |

Prices for all construction mat'l is going up. Drywall and metal studs going up weekly in some cases. Tariffs or the threat of tariffs is one of the reasons.

Big time. Blame the latest tropical storm/hurricane. In this case Irma.

It doesnt seem right to use untreated boards But I guess the Pt wouldnt play well with the steel either. I dunno. My redneck sealant as of late has been used motor oil. Soaks in good makes a nice color and seems to work good. Iv even used it on pressure treated wood to give it a better color.

Last November I was quoted $24/sheet for subfloor for a house I'm redoing. Now? $32 a sheet. No difference in stock. The same sheets there now were there in November. I assume it's because it's construction season like LakeCleElum said.

We are winning. Be careful what you wish for. Everything is up - metal, equipment stuff. I just ordered a 12.5 ton HVAC from Carrier. The price of this goes up 6% in June. My son is in the metals recycling business - he has seen prices rise, primarily on the fear of tariffs. What it means to you an me - inflation, IMO. The cost gets past on to you and me.

I was just talking to one of my lumber suppliers yesterday about this. It’s gone up the past six months but has really jumped the past 4-6 weeks.

It's 20+ years old and the edges are getting soft (rotten). Time for new.

It is my observation that would be get rich traders of futures can cause some massive whip effects.
It is also my observation(locally) that housing construction is ramping up to bubble ballistic around here.
