I think you nailed it on the helo...... <iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7cNC8nEajPk" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> The series featured Cody Allen (Perry King) and Nick Ryder (Joe Penny), two former army buddies who decided to open the Pier 56 Detective Agency (later known as the Riptide Detective Agency) in Los Angeles. However, realizing that computers and technology play a major role in many investigations, the guys recruited the help of Murray 'Boz' Bozinsky (Thom Bray), a brilliant but socially inept scientist and computer hacker whom the guys had met while serving in the military. Riptide was created by Frank Lupo and Stephen J. Cannell, and produced by Stephen J. Cannell Productions. The main theme was composed by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter. The team operated out of Cody's boat, the Riptide, which was moored at Pier 56 in King Harbor, California. The guys had several other tools in their fight against crime and injustice. These included Murray's robot (The Roboz—which, unlike most television robots, did not talk), Nick's aging Sikorsky S-58T The Screaming Mimi[1] helicopter, and Cody's speedboat, the Ebbtide. (Nick also had a classic red Chevrolet Corvette and Cody had a "Woody" station wagon.) Lt. Quinlan was a local police officer who continually harassed Nick, Cody, and Murray. Lt. Parisi, the guys' police contact during the final episodes, proved much more cooperative. Mama Jo was the crusty skipper of the Barefoot Contessa (a tourist boat crewed by an all-female crew) during the first few episodes. A female captain named Max managed the Contessa crew during the latter part of the first season. Later episodes also featured Dooley, a dock boy who occasionally assisted the team in their escapades. The show's penultimate episode, "If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em", saw Allen and Ryder acting as consultants to a television series which closely resembled and parodied Moonlighting, Riptide's former prime time competition on Tuesday nights. |
When I first read this thread title my first thought was Tom Selleck couldn't fit into the car anymore.
I understand why Hollyweird does it ($$$) but why use the same name? It's not the same TV show. It's full of strangers who have no connection to the original show. I'll pass unless the new "Higgins" spends a lot of time in a Bikini at the beach. |
Screaming Mimi. You got it.
|
You cant go home again. Its just not the same without Selleck. ANd someone said over the top, thats an understatement.
|
And a female Higgins? The banter between OG Higgins and OG Magnum can't happen because of the sex difference. OTOH, Tommy Lee Jones would make a kick ass Higgins! Like John Hillerman, he would be a native Texan playing a Brit.

Sorry, should have finished the thread.
Yes, Fall Guy was good. Well the scenery anyway and the stunts. |
Everything is retro out there trying to get the wealthy aging boomers to watch the commercials (probably a lot of big pharm adds for hemmoroid releif, or pain abatement).
|
There were those police detective shows as well. Miami Vice, Hunter, Sledge Hammer...Maybe not that one, thought it was a good spoof of those types.

And we are big Tom Sellick fans at out house (Blue Bloods, Jesse Stone) I never was a fan of the Magnum show but my wife was... because.. well.. Tom Sellick :D I think his acting has improved exponentially since P.I., again just IMHO. |
Quigby down under...a great oater. Very accurate on firearms used.
|
I like the new Hawaii 5-0. Hawaii is the star of that show. A lot of beaches, bikinis, shooting, car chases, bad guys get caught in the end...
It's not supposed to be Shakespeare! It's a 45 minute time-waster. Suspect the new Magnum will be the same. |
