what is the safest third would (2.5nd world?) country to ride a motorcycle across?

i want to do it.

my lame brother and friends would probably not do it with me. i am tempted to forgo all of next years hunts and just do this trip.

(maybe if i paid for my brother)

southeast asia? i think ripping across Africa would be cool..mongolia?

i am at a loss. i want to avoid the state dept having to negotiate (or not) my release from some guerillas.

From a crime perspective, India is relatively safe, and very beautiful. Rural roads are an absolute free for all, and you have to be ready to ride in a near mad max environment. That said, the highway system has grown dramatically. You are starting to see more and more 'interstate' type freeways.

My wife and I honeymooned in Turkey. We visited a very nice boutique hotel in the village of Sirince and there was a group of adventure motorcycles parked. Left an impression and I’d like to return to Turkey and do a moto trip.

Cliff, pick any country. It will be safer than the USA. You could probably include Iran and Afghanistan on that list.

Don't include personal safety as a condition of where you choose. Come up with some other criteria.

The most common question I get asked on the way is if I'm scared to travel alone. My answer is always the same 'No, there's nothing to be scared of and it's very easy to do!'. Sure, there were some scary moments but I came out of them only stronger.
Traveling solo gives you unconditional freedom, without any compromise. You can be spontaneous and live in the moment. Everyday you get to do whatever the hell you want!
Traveling solo makes you more approachable. People you meet along the way are more likely to join you for a meal or just to have a chat with you which sometimes turns into lifelong friendships.
Traveling solo builds your self-confidence and expands your comfort zone. You adapt yourself to situations as they come along and learn to deal with things you never before thought possible.
Travelling solo is not scary or hard to do, it's actually very easy. You should try it!

Tho not third world, New Zealand is a wonderful country to travel in!
Wide range of climate, varying topography, great coasts, and best of all very friendly hospitable people. Some world class driving roads too! And not too crowded.

You do have to be carefull tho, you might end up wanting to move there.

Cliff, there are some exceptional hunting and fishing opportunities there too.
Put it on your list. It takes at least a few weeks to scratch the surface.

One concern I would have with motorcycle cruising there is driving on the left side of the road. Not difficult in a car when your position in the car reminds you of where you should be, the bike won't give you this reminder.

I road from Managua, Nicaragua, down the pacific side through Costa Rica to the Panama canal, then back up the Caribbean side back to Managua. We never had one problem and never felt unsafe. We met several other riders from Canada and Europe and had a blast. Every stop we made we were teated with kindness and hospitality.

I tend to agree with Motion. You're far more likely to be a victim of violent crime in the U.S. Central Americans will steal your backpack in a second, but they won't stick a gun in your face and ask for your wallet.
