airplane oopsie today

So this happened just a few miles down I-75 from me today (I work at exit 389)

He's lucky he didn't go for 441 (just a mile or so east and parallel) since it is mostly underwater due to recent rains, and there is a wee alligator problem.

Any idea what happened? Fuel starvation?

And WTF was with the cars behind the (obviously landing) aircraft not slowing down or stopping?!?!

Certainly doesn’t look like they are anyway...

Lucky no power lines. Always something to consider when using a road / highway as your “field” for engine-out scenarios.

Hope all walked away ok. Probably.

Agree on all points. Any follow up?

It's unlikely they saw it until after we did in the video! I imagine it worked out ok.

Figure speed at touchdown to be about 50mph. Then merge into a freeway full of cars going 70.

My brother did his 6 months of flight school in Jacksonville and said there were a couple of real winners at that school, maybe it's one of them

Looked like he came down well ahead of the cars behind him and landed safely in the video from the rear view mirror. Everything's good!

Wires going across would not be a problem. That is on section of I75 that crosses Paynes Prairie, between Gainesville and Micanopy. There are wires on the 441 part (just a mile or so east and parallel) but they are parallel with the road. You can see the water though, since it is going over/through what was Lake Alachua 120 years ago.

Apparently it was a training flight, developed some "engine roughness" which turned into engine failure. Local rag - Training flight: Cessna makes emergency landing on I-75 - News - Gainesville Sun - Gainesville, FL

Probably FHP or the local sheriff. They work that stretch of 75 pretty hard.

Lucky he wasn't on the north jersey section of 95. There are enough wires to act like the catch cable on a carrier!

Look at the underside of the plane. I learned on a 152. Awesome little planes. Like a Miata in the sky.

I thought you were talking about this incident when I read the title.

Don't know why it didn't post the first pic.

If it is the first, then that could possibly explain the second

You post reminds me of the opening scene in "Air America"

(The guy is lying on the ground surrounded by fire)

Is he dead?

If he isn't he is really, really, calm.
