That the full story has not been told...some think he was railroaded into a plea bargain deal.
Anyway, 8-1 beavers final. On to Mississippi State & Vandy. I'm kinda rooting for the Dogs for this one..because of the Cinderella finish that got them to this point. Behind, 2 out..last batter hitting a grand slam for the win. How can you not love college baseball?

That no major league baseball team is picking up a lefty that throws 98mph tells me that backgrounds and histories have been checked, double checked and triple checked, and in the final analysis, this is the story that has been told. My respect for Pat Casey has gone from full-fledged to non-existent. My respect for Beavers Baseball has gone from full-fledged to non-existent. There was a chance to do the right thing a couple of years ago, but the moment passed and now this is the primordial ooze that Beaver Baseball fans get to wade through.

I don't know the whole story. I know this. The major league owners did not want this ugly story to be true. They spent a lot of time and a lot of money checking out every angle. The superfans and apologists can say what they want, how the Oregonian raked up the muck to destroy this kid.
The owners don't have that emotion. For MLB owners, the bottom line is money. They know that this kid is a talent on a level with Sandy Koufax, and there is not a single one who did not want to take him to a World Series win, or ten...because it really does look like he has the goods... yet, in two drafts, not one team picked him. Not one team is willing to take a chance. Do you think that the Yankees or the Cubs or the Dodgers didn't spend everything it took to look under every rock, interview every witness, check out every rumor to try and see if there was any chance that this kid could be clean? Do you believe for a minute that the Detroit Tigers wouldn't make damn sure that there wasn't some way to get this kid on their roster? It's unfortunate, but Luke is dirty now, and I think Pat Casey sat on the story to protect his legacy and insure more wins for the Beavs. I hate it that it happened, I really really do, but the story of a girl who's life was changed forever when she was six years old is a lot more important than a College World Series. But that's my opinion; Others have different opinions. The boards are full of people who support Luke wholeheartedly. I used to and I was proud of Beaver Baseball, but no longer. (By the way, if you want to really hate the Oregonian, I'm ok with that. Recall how when they broke the story about Neil Goldschmidt, the initial headline said that he had "had an affair" with a 14 year old. Grown, married men do not "have affairs with" 14 year olds. The Oregonian forever lost my respect with the way they tried to keep Goldschmidt relevant after that story broke.)

That Goldschmidt headline prompted me to cancel my home delivery of that rag. No regrets on my part there.

No club wants the controversy, guilty or not, proven or unproven. This is a PR nightmare MLB does not want. Look at what the Kaepernik story did to the NFL and what K did was nothing in comparison to this allegation. I wouldn't spend one dime trying to clear this kid. The league would never let him on the field, anyway. |

Apparently so, leads me to think people in the know don't see the dollars there. Guys with the checkbooks say no, it is no.
