you ever get nighttime leg cramps?

dang. my calf muscle is still sore.

last night, deep deep sleep. WHAM! i was instantly wide awake. i felt it coming about 2 seconds before it happens. then it happens. full on charlie-horse in the right calf muscle. it hurts so bad it is almost funny. the muffled groan, and the full body pucker as your ride out the 15 seconds of unbridled pain. my wife naturally wakes up because i am undulating about 6" above the bed surface like a poltergeist.
she said that has never happened to her. me? about 3x a year. usually my calf muscles, but sometimes my foot. (my foot, i just spring out of bed and start walking..it goes away almost immediately)

i am fully hydrated when i sleep. i slam a glass of water before i hit the sack; out of habit.

anyone else? it happens no rhyme or reason. sometimes when i mtn bike or jog..sometimes not.

Used to get them a lot. I now take a potassium pill every night and that helped big time.

I never have cramps. Last faint memory is in the pool.

Bananas ... try to eat 1-2 a day. I have bananas almost daily.

Not a fan of supplements, but if you do, potassium, as stated above.

I think you need to be careful with taking potassium as a supplement. To much can be as bad as to little. Supplement (pills) is the key here.
Magnesium is a good choice.
I also get leg cramps from time to time.
If you take a statin you might look at a supplement containing several vitamins geared to replace what the statins are effecting. CoQ10, magnesium, potassium, etc.
Seems to be working for me.

I have gotten that same cramp a number of times. It’s a *****. It’s also real fun trying to get into a position that relieves the cramp.

Yes, I get them occasionally. Once or twice a year. Agonizing...absolutely agonizing.

Part of life. It's worth it.

I tried drinking a lot of water, then potassium and magnesium. Not too much success. I figured out I was stretching in my sleep in the middle of the night. Big stretch and - BAM - Charlie horse. Somehow I have been able to stop myself from fully stretching my legs at night and am down from 2 per week to 1 or 2 a year.

BTW - make sure you get the right type of magnesium if you try that, because some will rip right through you (think Milk of Magnesia...). Chelated will do that, trust me.

I almost had one last night but I caught it just before it turned into a cramp.

I haven't had one in about 6 months and I believe that is due to using magnesium oil and also taking a daily mineral supplement that includes potassium. However, I ran out of my supplement about 2 weeks ago and last night I had the very beginning stages of a cramp when I started to stretch-out. I caught it early enough to stop it by stretching my foot in the opposite direction - whooo, I know how bad it feels.

My mom got night leg cramps like that. Usually an hour or two after going to sleep. After trying all sorts of things discovered when she was relaxing as she slept she was positioning her back in a way that caused the nerves to pinch up and cramp her legs. Exercises and a few trips to a chiropractor to straighten her back and build up the supporting back muscles stopped the leg cramps.

Used to do competitive cycling and several century (100 Miles) and double century rides which usually resulted in severe leg cramps due to dehydration and loss of electrolytes. Ate whole plantations of bananas and they(their potassium) never helped. Then I started taking a magnesium pill before bed (the cramps favorite time for sneak attacks) and drinking dill pickle juice and they were virtually cured. There is even a company which sells fortified pickle juice for cramping. https://www.amazon.com/Pack-8oz-Pickle-Juice-Sport/dp/B00OGMPRIS/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1518753413&sr=8-4&keywords=dill+pickle+juice+for+cramps
