anodizing side door window frames
Since the cost of new door window frames has gone outta this world, I'm looking for a company that has experience in anodizing Porsche trim parts. My frames were black, and I want to make sure that the refinished product will match the rest of my new trim pieces. Any suggestions out there??????

Just dropped off my window frames for restoration today at
The King of Trim, North Hollywood kingoftrim.com They had several other sets of porsche window frames in the shop and knew exactly what I had when I pulled them out of the car. I was quoted $1200 with a 4-5 week turnaround time, but their work looked great.

![]() I would be interested to see pics of how these look vs stock replacement anodized parts. Up here the anodizing is pretty inexpensive. I may do a few test pieces at the place that does all our wheels to see how they look... Cheers

I was a bit surprised as well, but the frames will have to be chemically stripped, cleaned, some minor oxidation repaired and then plated so it seems reasonable. Another local anodizer quoted me $400 but I would have to strip the paint myself and they couldn't repair any of the pits. The parts I saw that had just been coated looked fantastic so I'm willing to pay a little more for someone with experience. I'm already saving thousands on my paint anyway so what the hell.

It seems to me that power coating is more durable and less expensive. I wonder how long the anodizing finish will last before fading.
I'm sure that powder coating will also provide a stunning finish. |

Powdercoat won't get you the chrome look though. My frames were black powder coated and are going back to original bright anodized.

okay I see your objective now with the anodize finish.
On a similar note. I'm working on building a 10 inch extension for an electric oven so I can powder coat trim that will not fit in a large standard household electric oven. I'll keep you posted. I'm also very impressed with your project. You've come a long way and I hope my project does well. Keep up the good work. Don't give up or loose focus. V. |

Okay, I see you want clear anodize. There would be more work there as the material must be highly polished before it is anodozed.

To obtain the "black" factory look, the frames need to be chemically stripped, polished, brushed out matte, then anodized black to obtain the satin black look.
If you are looking for the "brite" or chrome looking trim, the process is different. The parts must be stripped (chemically) fully polished (show quality) then anodized with a "brite dip". Typical clear ano will NOT give you the desired look. There is a special anodizing process called "brite dip". Very few anodizers provide this process. I can get the parts refinished with the "brite dip" complete for approx. $675. Black anodized parts run approx. $500. If the frames were powdercoated, add $100 to the cost. A black powdercoat finish is an option at about $300. In each instance the turn around time is approx. 10 business days. Good luck.. Will |
