Fender replacement....

So I removed my fenders on my 75 911s, was cleaning up some minor rust.

Question is what do I put between the fenders and the body before re-assembly....i removed a silly puddy like substance during removal.

Any tips for getting it to all line up again?

You can buy the ribbon tape that goes there, or make a rope of plumbers putty, that works too.

Give PP a call, I cant find it in their catalog but I think they carry it, its like a sticky putty tape and it comes in a 5 meter roll.

I tried doing a search but couldn't find the right thread. I remember it being buried pages down on an RSR conversion post.

So, has anyone put a fender on dry?

I Por15ed both mating surfaces...and tossed the fender on and don't really want to take it off to goop it up and reinstall it.

Not being lazy but maybe a bit...does the goop trap moisture? Where going on dry might keep things a little dryer?

Just looking for some comments and experiences.

Car is going to be a nice weather weekend drive...and maybe some track.

I don't see a problem with putting them on as long as both mating surfaces are protected. IMO, Vw/Audi/Porsche used way to much seam sealer on the fender mating surfaces. An alternative could be to use some good quality undercoating or use the Wurth sprayable seam sealer. Both can be applied after the fender is installed. I prefer the Wurth seam sealer because it can reproduce the factory look inside the fender/cowl joint.
