If you know sheet metal then you're already 100 miles in front of most of us - certainly me at least :D Looking forward to seeing your work.

well fishcop, now the pressure's on!..well i spent all day with the wire on a right angle grinder, the wire wheel decided to show me who's boss, jumped off a metal edge, got caught in my tshirt and fillet my chest,so i got to spend the rest of the day workin in excruciating pain!..actually,it didnt hurt that bad.anyhow, after scranbling my brain all day,i think i have a game-plan,since the back half of the floorpan is beat up pretty bad,but not really rusted to speak of,im gonna try n remove it,hammer n dolly it into shape and salvage it.we'll see if that actually works.im pretending that aftermarket panels arent available for this car,cuz thats the only thing keeping me from spending a grand on em.ok,picture time

normally i like to start on the most difficult parts so i can reward myself with the easier stuff later, but not on this project,im gonna hone my skills on the easier stuff! |

remember kids..safety first! |
You'll probably want to replace them when you see the inner surface of the floor. There were no spot welds holding the floor to the longitudinal around the t-tube in mine. I'm not sure if Hans just missed 16" worth of welds, or if they all rusted out :p
I thought mine where pretty good.... and I'd just patch em... so I made the outer area on the entire drivers side. Later I bought a rear section cause I was going crazy trying to match all the different angles at the rear of the floor. The passenger side will be easier cause I have the entire rear section.... I'll just have to make the front edge |

yeah, yer right,if worse comes to worse,i can straighten the whole thing out and use it for a pattern.maybe

Nasty war wound! I've had a few "incidents" myself with the grinder
I'm going to side with PK on this... those pans are going to be soooo thin from the inside. I fought the new panel thing for a while, but even with your skills - your time might be better spent? I bought a gutted SC shell for $500 and unstitched the floor as well as many other useful patches - I still went with a replacement rear floor section as removing the SC floor proved too hard for me and I butchered quite a few of the spot weld cuts |
yes,i checked out your thread, ive pretty much checked out the threads of all the people commenting,im really suprised by how many of these porsche's have pretty much identical problems as mine.i guess i shouldnt really though, after all my vw bug and bus experiances! ok,today went pretty well,i have no idea what i was thinkin, using the old pan.altogether crazy!so i'll get to pictures

thanks jibmaster, well i finally got my keyboard working.i realize im not doing this floor excactly like the factory built it,but im sure herr ferdinand would be fine with it,also on the jack points i just made it so i could use a floorjack point,i just hate the factory jackpoint.i also borrowed a lincoln 110v wire feed from my brother and it works a hundred times better than the miller 220v.i usually only tig weld,so doin wirefeed is kinda out of my comfort zone.thanks everyone for watchin this thread and the comments
