windshield area rust question
Hello All,
I'm considering buying a 930 with all the original paint. The windshield area has some bubbling. I want to keep as much of the original paint as possible, but how can this be fixed and new paintwork kept to a minimum. I'm concerned with the silver paint blending so it is not noticable. I'm not a pro but, the bubbles on your scuttle need investigation, and it will most likely be greater then what you can see.
Silver is a bit@h to match, but a good painter should be able to do it. I'd be taking it to a high end shop and at least getting a ball park quote, before you purchase the car, if you haven't already. 930's rock.

tom to repair your car properly the front glass has to be removed along with the fender, hood and cowel vent . that spot then gets sand blasted . the down side is you don't know how bad the rust is untill you blast it . it may need a patch welded in ? as for the painting you can just blend off the color and clear the cowel panel doing a clear blend up the A-pillers . but the best way is to clear the hole roof and down around the rear glass and also removing the rear glass . a painter can match the color . i think i have stated in the past on other posts that there are painters and then sprayers . a sprayer is only some one who can put the color and clear on a car and can't match color that well at all !SO DON'T BE FOOLED !!! there are alot of sprayers that call then selfs painters . as for the door repair thats not that bad the color can just be blended out and clear the hole door . the door handle has to come off and the mirror along with the belt molding . i hack shop will cut the wires to the mirror and a good shop will depin the barrel connector (plug) .

Tom, I don;'t want to scare you, but I just finished my 911 and I had a few bubbles.

fritz if it was fixed right the first time it would not look like that now . the person that repaired it from the looks of things just hit it with a grinder and mudded it . this is what i was saying about don't be fooled . in my shop its more than ok for the car owner to come check out there car on each step of the repair . but maybe thats what the person wanted when they payed for that repair . alot of times peaple just look at the price and say that guy wants 1200 bucks to do that job and the guy down the road told me he would do it for 500 . that guy that wants 1200 hes a rip off . but the 1200 dollar job wont look like that 3 years down the road !you get what you pay for !and the way it was repaired for the 2nd time . i will give it 3 to 5 years before you start to see it coming back .

tomdeg, it's a 1972T
I done the work my self, cut all the rust out and replaced the missing metal with healthy metal. Those are only three pictures, I have around 20 pictures for the whole procedure. I think it will last longer than 3 years. |
