color sanding question
finished my DIY paint,
many thanks to Freddie H and his painting 101 series! its single stage PPG, surprizingly little crap and minimal orange peel! so now i'm getting cocky and am going for a really nice finish. so... when color sanding prior to buffing what grits of wet/dry should i use? 1: start with 1000, 1200 or 1500? 2: end with 2000, 2500 or 3000? what is you preferred sequence? thanks

1500 works best . also to help so the sand paper does not get pills in it . put a cap of dish soap in the wet sanding bucket . also get a good soft block and when color sanding .sand with the longest strokes you can . a short sanding stroke will sand waves into the finish .

just 1500?
is there any value to going to 2000 as a next step? would that make buffing any easier?

no all you need is 1500 . we use presta ultra-cutting creme and a white 100% twisted wool pad first then we go to presta's chroma 1500 or 2000 with a waffle foam ( presta's yellow) pad or you could use 3M's black foam pad .

I used 800, 1000, 1500 and 2000 followed by Surefinish on a wool bonnet and a Makita polisher. You can find SureFinish here: http://www.autobodystore.com. They also have a great forum.
