What is the most simple way to fix this?

I have a '74 that is pretty solid other than these two places. Right and left front fenders at the rocker panels. I know I have to cut and weld new metal. Is there a place I can source just the lower portion of the fenders or do I have to fabricate from scratch? [IMG][/IMG]

I'd say the first thing you should do is strip the area to see how extesive the rust is. It may be possible to just cut out the area around the rust and patch in a new piece. That would be the easiest assuming the rust is just in the area of the visible bubbles in the photo.

Not trying to be a pain, but are you sure that is all you have?

+1. NOT to be an alarmist, but I am concerned that once you look, you will find that the bottoms of your door pillars and rockers are also affected. You need to peel back your door sills and poke around a bit. See my recent thread in this forum (and of course many others before me), my '86 had similar bubbles, and they are caused by the accumulation of debris and dirt that trap moisture at those spots, classic 911 rocker rust. By the time you see those bubbles at the base of the door pillar, it has eaten through from the inside out. Why Porsche did not have a fender liner to prevent this is beyond me, but this is just one of those 911 quirks (like say, the instrument panel wiring) that makes you wonder whether beer for lunch at the design center was such a great idea. I hope yours is not serious.

By the way, these pieces are available through our host, who sources various sheet metal parts from several suppliers - Dansk, Restoration Designs, and Porsche.

Ask someone parting out a 911 to cut this out for you - cheapest way to get the sheetmetal you need.

Look underneath that area, there should be a drain hole... see if they are plugged with something.
