911 Front Fender Alignment/Adjustment

The front Fenders were removed to repaint my '84 Cab ; Previously, the gap between fenders and door edges was 3/16". The Tech who took car apart died and another tech has put it back together. There is now nearly a 1/2 " gap between the edges of both doors and the edges of the fenders; the top corners of the fenders (at the WS pillar) are also about 1/2" forward. The tech claims that he's pushed the fenders as far back as possible. There was no body work done on the front of the car thus this must be an installation issue. Can anybody tell me how to correct this problem?

Yes, loosen all of the fender bolts and move the fender rearward, to get the fit you're looking for.
If the car is assembled, you have to remove the bumper and headlamps.

The Tech told me he had done that; I'll have to carefully look it over once I get it home; it doesn't make sense to me because prior to dis assembly, the door to fender gap was perfect.

It's not easy to move the fenders once they're in place.
There is a sealer between the fender and the apron that sticks them together.
If you remove the headlamp, you can grab the bucket with one hand and the windshield post with other, and pull it back till you get the gap you want.
There is a bolt in the headlamp bucket as well.

Thanks John; I just hope that he didn't bend the vertical joining flange(s) when he bolted everything together.

You might want to check the leading edge of the bonnet and its alignment with the leading edge of the fenders, particularly where it crosses from bonnet to fender. Based on what you say the bonnet's edge should be 5/16 forward of the fender leading edge. If this is not the case it might be worth further investigation, eg what is the gap at the trailing edge of the door?

Or bend them when taking the fenders off. I was real careful when I did my dis-assembly on the front end, but I can see where this could be an issue.

I assume that you are saying that the front edge of the bonnet should protrude 5/16" past the leading edge of the front fenders. The gap at the back of the doors (doors to quarter panes) is correct.
