Replacing head light buckets question

I see that head light buckets are available. With the price of new fenders out of sight is replacing just the after market head light buckets straight forward. 1970 Targa.

I have experience in this area but just wondering if the replacement buckets are worth messing with.

to do the buckets it's about a 2 hour job for each one . very ez to do ! and well worth it if that is the only rusted out areas you really have to mess with . we replace them all the time when there is rust between the buckets and the fenders . there is no sence to repair a fender if there is still rust that will come back down the road were the bucket welds in . we take a cut off wheel and just cut around the lip from were the head lamp sets into the bucket . then make two cuts at 3:00 and 9:00 were the bucket sits agains the fender . grind off the little spot welds with the cut off wheel and the ring of the bucket will come right off . clean up the lip with a norton beast stripping disc . brush some weld primer on the clean metal were the new bucket will sit and line up as to the head lamp ring will sit as it should and spot weld it back in place .

Thanks for the info. So the after market buckets sound Ok for this. Fenders are in great shape it`s just the buckets that need replaced. PO attempted to modify them for some reason or another.

many people will cut the back out of the right side one so when they go to the track they think that it gets more air to the oil cooler . they pull the head lamp when there at the track to do so . the down side to doing that is it packs more air up under the fender and gives the car alot more drag . kind of pointless !
there is also people doing it to put non sealed beam head lamps in the car .
some of the non sealed head lamps with the replaceable light bulbs only fit in the buckets with the backs cut out .
