Found the two rear calipers... should be here towards the end of the week. Woohooo!
Now to order the adapters... and the headers and exhaust... and the rotors, and the pads, and the rear corner lights (mine are toast)... and, and, and...

That interior colour is going to look fantastic with the blue/grey. Or grey/blue...
Fantastic build!

Dash recovered in the leather I got... light was not right for the photo, so color looks off a lot... Did it myself... I figured that the worst that could happen is that I had to send it out after messing it up... but came out fine. I do not have the double stitch that I wanted, but also only spent 90.00 instead of 700.00...
![]() ![]() Maybe this one captures the color a bit better... ![]() Also plan to take the red straps that came with the RS door panels and recover those in leather as well and make some holes in it... something like this, but thicker, folded double so I have nice leather inside the strap as well, and nicer looking... I just had to give it a try to see if it would look good. ![]()

2nd try at the pull strap... still too wide... I will try again... and the sewing machine at home can't tackle this job... what you see there is just glued together... I need to find a way to get a nice black stitching in there...
![]() ![]() Also looking to make a shift boot... ![]()

Finally got the width correct... used a thick paper folder and cut the strip to the width I needed and then covered the strip with the leather. Perfect!
Not sure if I should do the holes or not... ![]()

Went to the local Tandy Leather store and got a tutorial on sewing leather, installing the grommets, etc. Got me some tools and started to work...
Pull straps are done. There was enough material left to make four. I will put away the extra two for when the other set is worn and in need of replacement... ![]() Also got some needles, thread, leather lace and started working on the shift boot. Pay no attention to the marks and uneven cut :icon107: the guy at Tandy made enough funny remarks about it to last me a long time :roflmao: ![]() ![]() ![]()

I am planing to do one - where did you get the leather? was it pre-cut? Did you cover over original vinyl/leather or you striped it? What glue did you use? Thanks |

Leather from Tandy Leather
Not pre-cut... had to cut it myself. Bought a cow, I mean, just the skin... Covered over the original vinyl. Make sure everything is smooth... if you have cracks in yours, then fill those with something other than silicone (use body filler)... just make sure there are no high spots around the cracks, cut if needed fill sand smooth. Use 3M spray adhesive Leather stretches to get you around the odd curves... I start in the middle towards the back then tackle the front. Careful how you stretch the leather so that it does not look stressed... just pull in several directions and you will get it installed fine. Do not cut the leather too close, trim later, once glued in place.

Best if you have an extra set of hands... also, apply the glue only on the area you are working first, don't spray everything... I spray first on the rear part of the dash, the top flat part, and along the line that divides the transition to the front end...
With help from a friend, I then start gluing the leather to the center line... and gluing towards the back flat surface.... but make sure that center line is glued in place well... you do not want that raising because you forgot to press it in first before moving on... The hardest part is the two front curves around the gauges... many small cuts to get the leather to stretch... And again, do not cut close.... cut the leather so that you have enough material... in case you start incorrectly and run out of leather in a key corner (happened to me on the first one)... you can trim as you go...

Well... once again I got shipped the wrong rear calipers... received 996 parts instead of 986... Vendor is sending correct ones in the next few days and picking up the ones I have here...
I ordered some PORSCHE caliper decals. Now need to decide what color I paint the calipers... inclined to paint them black. I have caliper paint in Silver, Black, and Red.... I was going to go initially with Red, but not sure now. I know it is a trivial issue...

The recovered dash looks excellent. What size leather did you order and what's the black and red goop you're using to fill the cracks in the original, please?

![]() Leather is about 1.4 mm in thickness... I bought the complete cow and it was enough to do the dash, top door trim, pull straps, shift boot, key chain...
