912 engine in 356?

Hello

What mods are needed to put a 1965 912 engine in a 1958 356?

Thanks
Axel

Think the older 356s had a 180mm clutch - the C/SC/912 use a 200mm one. Also the 912 is 12 volt generator, the '58 356 is 6v so possibly new bulbs all around and changes to your gauges.

Hello

Thanks for reply.

Do you know if the larger diameter clutch/flywheel will fit inside the gearbox without mods?

Thanks
Axel

It won't fit and the starter motor and flywheel teeth won't mesh. Suggest you get a 356 flywheel/pplate/TO bearing/clutch and put it on the 912 engine. Also, it's quite a bit easier to put the 356 generator stand and generator on the 912 rather than trying to convert the car to 12 volts.
