Looking for info on engine values.

Since I'm "A Porsche Guy" I have been asked if I could help a elderly man value his 356 engines and maybe then help sell them, but for now one bridge at a time. He was a autocrosser back in the day and ran what looks like a Formula Vee type car with 356 engine, trans and brakes.

He currently has two 356 engines. A 59 & a 61 that have been modified.

Frist the 59 - His notes say the engine has been balanced, lightened fly wheel, has been ported and a mild cam.

The 61 - His notes say the engine has been balanced, big bore kit, mild cam, super light fly wheel, solex carbs, K&H air filter, and electronic ignition

I have not seen these engines yet or spoke to him. I will meet with him this week sometime and get more detailed info and some pictures. His health is not the best, so it all depends on how he is feeling.

I know its not much info just yet and lets assume there are no issues with the engines. Any idea on what would be a fair value for each engine? Any other info I should get from him? As I get more details I will update this thread.

Thanks

Garold, when you go visit the chap take some pics and get the S/n off the motors as well as the 616/x number on the cases. Your best avenue to reach a larger, focused market is the 356 Registry, use their classified section. My best to your friend. The engines could have a wide margin of worth.
Good luck,

At the minimum, as an unknown long block core, you are looking at close to $3k per engine.

If they run, and aren't turkeyed up by a VW bug mechanic, then 7-8k maybe?
