1984 Air Condioner Condensor Box
I have read many stories of people breaking the plastic tabs on the condenser box when removing the metal clips to open the box. I want to share the way that I removed the clips without damage to the box. I used two alen wrenches just large enough to fit into the holes on each side of the metal clip. With the thumb and fingers of one hand I squeeze the wrenches together and slide the clips off and back on. I am sure this could be done with some large snap ring pliers as well.

Great idea
Thanks I'll try that. I'm replacing mine this weekend and bought new clips in anticipation of them going airborne

I find it amazing that the factory came up with this as the best solution. I understand they wanted a way to get the cover off without removing the whole box, but 4 screws would have been far more successful than these damn clips. I've only had luck removing and installing them when I've removed the whole box from the car.....

Get off my lawn!

The biggest tip, put a piece of string or thin wire in the hole and anchor the string to something. That way when the clip goes flying off or gets dropped it does not get eaten by the smugglers box or vanish in the garage.

Evaporator.
Are we talking evaporator, or condenser?

That's fond- just deglaze

Can't agree more with GH85Carrera- the string is the trick. Those clips can fly an amazing distance if not restrained!
