Brian: Very interested in a cat option for this, as I'll need to pass colorado emissions indefinitely (including drive-by testers) -- fingers crossed that you'll find enough interest it move forward with its development --

Thanks!

Looking into race cats. Space is probably going to be an issue but we will see. The sound most definitely will be affected as catalytic converters make for a terrible exhaust note. Will have to find the absolute minimum passible functionality so all power gains are not lost.

You should definitely get an under load driving video up, but this looks awesome.

Thanks! I've never had much luck capturing the "real" sound on video. Most things I see on YouTube are way more quiet than actually being there. The video we got revving the Carrera demonstrates the difference between bone stock and the unattenuated active exhaust. It sounds pretty mean ripping through the gears! I did think about capturing sound during a dyno run but the room was closed in making it crazy loud. Stock even sounded loud in there. The added power is really noticeable, very nice bump. I'll see what we can do about an in-car video.

Did you one better, this cat is CARB approved for use in all 50 states including California!

What's the performance gain vs. just your standard premuffler?

Yes quite real and there is more to come
Because it is CARB approved this catalytic converter will not yield the results expected from a sport cat. The advantage is that this system is as free flowing as a California approved smog system can be. You also get a really nice sport sound that is tunable.

Next up will be a sport cat. We will take that one to the dyno and test it against our premuffler. So far I have not seen any 49 state catalytic converter options for these cars that significantly improve power, and by significant I mean 10+whp with no other changes. The sport cat is not cheap so it must perform or hit the scrap pile. Once we get the data from the sport cat I'll add and tune the active exhaust valve with the goal of returning the same power level as the premuffler.

Nice! What a great option for those unwilling/unable to do the ol switcharoo every two years. Hopefully the sport cat will workout, it would be a nice option for those living under less draconian laws than CA. Luckily my county doesn't care what comes out of my tailpipe so I've been loving every second of my newly installed 2in-1out SSI combo.

Bump on this great thread. Any one have videos?

Brian, is the mini-tail pipe visible when the car is on the ground?

The tailpipe silencer is visible from the rear of the car. At a Cars & Coffee I had someone ask me if the car was turbocharged because they could see the waste gate dump pipe. I was testing our new MKM73 GT3 Muffler with optional full wrap valance and the Active Exhaust was still installed. Don't see myself removing the MKM32AE as I love it!

We can add on a different tailpipe if you wish to not see it from the rear.

We will be testing this Sport Cat next. From the reviews gathered by my drag racing friends this unit flows the best without throwing codes. If we add the AE valve option it will need to go back to the dyno as these are tuned systems.

For the folks who have SSI heat exchangers, is there an active muffler based on the similar concept? That would be awesome...

Yes.
It's in the test phase right now. Close to stock quiet at idle and cruise, sport when you get on it. Same characteristics as the SC/Carrera version.

brian, wondering if this could be made to work with a more vintage configuration rather than the GT style tail pipes. Could this function with just two tail pipes, one being the "regular" pipe and the other the active pipe, but spaced more like an RS exhaust? I would want the pipes the same diameter. See hacked up picture below.

FYI, i am running long headers, no heat.

The Active Exhaust for SC/Carrera single inlet systems will work with ANY single inlet muffler. For testing purpose I use an OEM muffler. The muffler pictured in post #37 is our MKM73 GT3 muffler. We also have the MKM74 911S muffler with that more vintage tailpipe spacing.

The Active Exhaust tailpipe is optional, if you don't want to see it just leave it off.

The dual inlet active exhaust system for headers will be offered in Single Outlet, GT3 or S configuration as well. That one will be the actual muffler as that is all there is to work with.
