911 SC - Mystery dash switch?

Hi Folks:
I am a 911 newbie, got my 1st Porsche ever, last summer, a 78 911 SC Japanese spec car, and I am really pleased with it. I would also like to say THANKS to our host and all the posters here... I have used this forum extensively already to solve all kinds of issues... fantastic.
A question: I have a switch opening in the dash between the fresh air controls and the steering column. The hole in the dash looks very stock but the PO had used this space to mount an aftermarket toggle switch to control the power antenna. The question: Is this hole a stock opening? And if so, what was the intended use of this switch?

There is a detent there but not drilled.

I have attached pictures of dash sections from a 78 SC and ‘89 cabriolet. The ‘78 has indention marks (no plug) while the ‘89 has a plug with vents (?). Add you location and you might have someone near your location. Like to see picture of your engine. Thanks.

That is the location for an optional fader adjustment knob for your stereo.
I actually had the fader knob in that location. When I removed my center console, I moved the AC fan controller into that location. I have an aftermarket stereo so the fader control wasn't being used anymore.

For your information the "vent" is the interior temp sensor for your auto heat.

All- thanks,very helpful. I just changed the stereo to a used Alpine cassette deck and have wired the power antenna directly to the radio ,so I have a spare slot which I will have to think of a use for!
Also noted the helpful comment on suggesting my location. I am in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, looking forward to meeting some fellow 911 owners in the area .

Wow, I din't notice your location.
Nice looking car, but then again I'm biased .

On my '75, that is the location for the intermittent wiper timing control knob.

Yup nothing but prep for the fader in my NA '80.

I believe that the intermittent wiper timing control knob in the SC was just NE of there between the speedo & clock...some good info (& laughs) posted here.

Bill Verburg posted the following image...the fader cutout seems unlisted/difficult to see in this diagram...

For MY 74 and 75, that location was used for the intermittent wiper switch. Starting 76, that switch moved between the gauges (the small rotating knob) and the freed location was used for other purposes like fader knob.

For cars with the optional Webasto gas heater, that position was used for a push/pull switch to turn the heater off/on.

on my 1983 it is an antenna switch, you can lower/raise antenna.

push pull switch . was disconnected when i got the car .. so ive had it connected to a few different things across the decades. I used to have it connected to my radar detector power so i could kill the power quickly if i needed to .

After i grew up and realized i wasn't going to be speeding around town i had a change of heart. i ditched the detector and I connected it to the electric antenna in the days before it went down when you changed the source. I could lower it when listening to a tape , then CD.
The later units were smarter and lowered the antena when you change the source to anything but radio so i no longer need it. But it sits there quietly waiting for the next application i can think of.
