Sherwood, my apologies I know that they are topologically donuts, Late night brain fade I guess. There have been a series of rear M calipers starting with the 69 T designed for the thin non-vented rotors, then the middle version used from 69-83 designed for the 290x20 mm vented rotor these have 2x38mm pistons and a small specer to accomodate the thicker rotor, finally the 84-89 M caliper which has bigger 2x42mm pistons and a spacer to fit the thicker 290x22mm rotors.
Prior to 69 there was an even smaller L caliper.

I'm always really impressed by the knowledge base on this board. Some know a little, which makes them (i.e. me) somewhat dangerous. Others apparently make a living by doing what he/she is posting on the board. Bill "The Brake Man" Verburg (and Sherwood as well) must work for Lockheed, McDonnell-Douglas, ATE, Alcon, PBR...... or race all the time to have such information available for us. I mean, somebody has to know how brakes are designed. These fellas (among others I have failed to mention- my apologies) might be the brake engineers at a major auto manufacturer for all I know.

I think it's great that these folks are available for brain-picking. Where else can you get real world, hands-on experience regarding the upgrade you're considering. Where would many of us be without this BBS and the internet? Trial and error or just making do with what Porsche gave us out of the box (which is better than most anything else on the road- old or new) I guess.

All hail Pelican Parts.
