Danco, I admire the originality of your interior re-do. Overall your project seems like a state-of-the-art answer to the question, "Show me how to maximize the performance of a Carrera, 2018 edition?". Not inexpensive, really cool. Best, John.

Nice work! Really like the interior and the clean exterior.

I'm just having fun and personalizing the car while being careful not to add more weight in the process. Quote:
Another shot of the interior door cards, RecaroRS style. https://preview.ibb.co/dGevcf/Interior-Card.jpg The final piece for the lightweight battery comes in tomorrow, and then I'll be ready to install that. I need to think up a new "To-Do" list before I get bored. |
Today was battery swap day.
In there before was a young Interstate Battery weighing in at 43lbs. I promptly removed that mega paper weight in favor of the model ATX-30 from Antigravity Batteries. This battery weighs in at a measly 5.7lbs and with the proprietary mounting kit, a total of 7.2lbs. This nets me a weight savings of 35.8lbs from the front left corner of the car. I figure I can remove the 964 space saver wheel and the tool kit for another 40ish lbs for an easy 75-80lbs of weight savings from the front of the car. That sounds pretty good to me. I should be in the low to mid 2500lb range now (with half a tank of gas). Before: https://preview.ibb.co/hNK7A0/IMG-2640.jpg During. (screwing down the new battery mounting kit): https://preview.ibb.co/jehSA0/IMG-2642.jpg and Installed: https://preview.ibb.co/jxDZq0/IMG-2643.jpg I realize I positioned the battery incorrectly and covered up the "restart" button on the top of the battery. I'll fix this later. I drove the car a few times today and I **think** I can feel a difference without the weight up front. Seems like the car is more willing to turn in and just feels quicker and easier to get to speed, and quickly. I don't have radio or AC or any other potential parasitic draw on the system, so this battery was my choice, while everyone else said to spring for the heavier RS-30 model. I said no thanks. Lighter is better. So far so good. Next up, Turbo Fans! I need to start thinking about a 3.6L Varioram engine swap. |
Did the battery swap affect/increase the front ride height?

I didn't mention it, but I changed the swaybar end links and a few other things in the front suspension (fresh WEVO top mount load bearings), and it needs to go back in for final alignment. If necessary, I'll have the height adjusted and corrected. Will report back when this happens. |
Wow! Love what all you've done in a reasonably short timeframe.
Where are you located? Orange County? I just installed Herr Carceller's modern MAF (in place of a '90s Autothority unit), injectors and ECU this past weekend. As much as I like the stock DME / Motronic... I LOVE the feeling of stepping into the current millennium in terms of MAF & injector hardware. And Sal is uber thorough! Car feels strong with the new gear and sounds extra pissed at 5k+ RPMs with my pre-muffler and de-baffled (2 of 4) stock muffler. BTW, is the seating height higher, lower or the same for the Pole Positions versus stock seats? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1541536615.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1541536615.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1541536615.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1541536615.jpg |
Thanks Frank! Yes, I'm in Orange County. In Newport Beach to be exact.
I'd love to see/drive your car to see what Sal's kit is like. Are you in OC much? Best, Ryan Quote:

Amazing build! Wheel question - what’s the offset on your front 16x8s? Only 8” Fuchs I see have an offset for the rear.

Hope this info helps. |

My '87 is rocking 951 8s on the front too. Great setup. |

Are you using any spacers for the rear? I have Sal’s MAF kit on my ‘87 as well and I can honestly say it’s been a great experience Working with Sal - and the results are fantastic. I’m very pleased. |

I have 16x9 (930) wheels in the rear with 12mm spacers, and 16x8 (rear 951) wheels on the front with no spacers. Tires are 245/40/16 rear and 225/45/18 front. I think those are the correct sizes. I don't think I **need** Sal's kit since my car runs so well, but it's tempting. But at the same time, the plan is to get the 3.6L Varioram 993 engine into this car, so another $2500 towards Sal's kit could be counterproductive in the long run. I am torn. |
Thanks for including tire size. Making some assumptions here while searching Tire Rack - are you running Toyo Proxes T1R's? They show available sizes: 225/50ZR16 &
245/45ZR16. |

I swapped out the original G50 Shift Joint in favor of the WEVO Performance Shift Joint yesterday AM. Took about 30 min in total, with half of the job being done from inside the cabin, and the other half below the car where the joint meets the transmission.
Before this install, I had the WEVO SSK for some time and I LOVE it. Very crisp, shorter throw shifts. But with the PSJ installed, shifting gears is like a well-oiled bolt action rifle. Exact at every point in the shift. No more slop from the factory rubber bushing between the rod and the factory joint. VERY nice upgrade for the G50 cars. I didn't think to take photos, though. |
Time to get these Turbo fans wrapped up. I decided on keeping the livery very simple. I have a 917-style key, 917-style shift knob, and I figured, why not go with a 917-style (also 956) wheel fan design. So I landed with this.
https://i.ibb.co/2MN9TYM/fans.jpg Then I cut out one of them and overlayed it onto the current fan, and I got this: https://i.ibb.co/VWbYcsC/fans-2.jpg https://i.ibb.co/GJ400bw/fans-3.jpg So I can finally give this car a little more style. https://i.ibb.co/dmstv5t/fans-4.jpg Should be able to wrap this up next week, though I kind of want to repaint and color match the fans to my car's color Venetian Blue, and go with a white script. This is the motivation for that color scheme: https://i.ibb.co/jRD1jR4/autoillustr...64613099-n.jpg I like where it's heading so far. These fans have been a small but fun project. |
