I've been quiet, but plotting.

Over the last three months, the car has undergone a full glass-out repaint due to unforeseen circumstances.

I ran over a rather large bolt on the freeway and it popped my passenger rear tire, then the bolt was kicked up and put two sizable dents in the quarter panel from the inside and cracked paint! I made an insurance claim under comprehensive coverage and after a bit of battling back and forth, they agreed to fund 2/3 of a complete glass out paint job. I accepted and went through with it.
During that time, I had a few exterior modifications made; one of which was a second exhaust hole on the passenger side for the eventual dual-out muffler, and a center cut out on the front valence for the eventual center oil cooler.

The paint came out great and I'm very happy with the quality. Car is back in my possession this upcoming Tuesday after a few more little tweaks by the painter.

I decided to go with a slightly darker shade of venetian than what was on there previously. It's not a noticeable difference unless you look at both shades right next to each other, and even then you have to squint. I think it better reflects the true color from factory when I park it next to another local venetian car with sub 30k miles. I like it.

Next up is prep for engine swap! I may change out the front seats once more, and have a fresh roll bar recommissioned. I want a roll bar that aggressively hugs the roof line so that it's not directly in my rear view.

Oh I put a fresh OEM headliner in as well.

Just going back to discussions around the KW v3 shock absorbers on pages 1 & 2, and the raised spindle option.

If you look closely at the pictures that both you and Steve Wong have posted of your KW kits, the front spindles on Steve's kit are raised even higher than your spindles.

Do KW now have custom raised spindle height options, or did your front shocks actually have the standard height spindles?

I’m curious about your comment on having them take it a little darker than regular Venetian… did you have them go darker than the ‘color match’ of what you had on the car, or darker than the Porsche color code/sample?

How did they achieve the darker tint? More black, more grey, more blue? …In the mix.

I ask because I also have Venetian Blue ’87 and would love to have the paint look like that! New paint isn’t in the cards for mine any time soon, but I’d like to know for when the time comes.

When I had work done on my '88 Venetian it came out a little darker as well. There are so many Porsche shades of blue that are so close!

A few small, but new developments in the last few weeks.

First, I stepped up and changed the front side markers to euro deletes. Why I waited so long I'll never know. This prompted me to also go to euro rear lenses. Then I decided to buy the Spokeswerks LED rear tail lights that light up like RS lights - in a circular pattern. It looks super cool from behind and I've very happy with them.

Then I decided it was time for a new windshield. Well, a rock on the freeway made that decision for me, but seeing as my windshield wasn't OEM and I had strong windshield coverage through my insurance policy, I decided to experiment a bit. I found the part numbers for 964 windscreen and 964 windscreen seal. From my reading online, the 964 glass is wider on all edges by 5mm, and has a much-improved seal. I argued with my body guy for about 2 minutes but he agreed to go through with it. Everything went smooth and the "upgrade" to 964 glass and seal is stellar. Insurance ended up coffing up about $2300 for this upgrade and my deductible was only $250. That is a fair trade.

This is a poor photo, but you can see the new seal design. It fits MUCH BETTER in the corners as well. That was my biggest motivator. The seal also has much better water resistance properties being that the glass is glued into the seal and sealed to the body like the new cars. Worth the effort.

Next up is having another roll bar made that hugs the ceiling better. My current bolt in roll bar is a DAS unit made for sunroof cars. My car doesn't have a sunroof so I don't need the extra clearance. I will be selling the current DAS bolt in roll bar.

I still need to get the 3.6 varioram engine in.
