Targa top issue -- joint

Hello,

I'm new here, in May purchased a 89 Targa. I have had a couple of other air cooled 911s before (964s). Love the car, and have had some usual mods done. Car is in good shape, has 42k miles, and targa top had been freshened and new seals at some point.

Weird thing happened today, removed the targa top after a car wash and the front folding brace suddenly dropped loose. On inspection, it appears one of the front joints -- which are apparently made of plastic -- has disintegrated. I've attached two photos of the bad one, with what is left of the plastic insert, and a photo of one of the rear joints in good condition.

I've looked around at parts catalogues but I cannot locate anything. Any ideas where to find replacement parts for this?

Thanks for any input,
John

This looks like it should fit.

It's fascinating how Porsche still makes these small low volume parts for our cars. Well done !

Thanks for the replies!

Attached are photos I took when the car rolled off the truck in May. Since then I've done a SW chip and M&K exhaust, and Guard differential. Planning on suspension work soon..

I did sent out an email to Dan P. regarding options, though the carsinc@comcast.net address bounced back. Does anyone have another email address for him?

The Pelican part looks to fit a 964, but at the price it's probably worth a gamble.

Thanks for the replies! Posted some photos, but I guess they need to be approved by moderator (according to message)..

Anyway I did email Dan at Cars Inc (carsinc@comcast.net) but email came back.. Is there another email for him?

The part referenced by pmax appears to be for a 964, but it may work I guess, and worth the price to see perhaps.

Sorry if this is a duplicate-ish post..
