Half Pint Back-Date
Hello from Durban, South Africa.
I've been lurking here for the longest time (mainly around all the fabulous build threads), so in return for all the knowledge gained from this forum, I figured it's probably a good thing to share what we've created - a back-dated Outlaw 911. I own half of the car, my mate Chris owns the other half - Hence the car's name. It's a matching numbers 1980 3L SC, modified twin spark making 321hp at the fly on 95 pump gas and 355hp on 102 avgas and it weights in at 973kg. The pics below are the most recent, but we have taken photos throughout the build and I intend posting them here of that's okay. I know it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but here it is - I give you "Half Pint". SmileWavy Cheers, Pierre. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534417424.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534417424.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534417424.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534417424.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534417424.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534417424.jpg |
I love it!!!
pics and specs of that engine please?? |
I wouldn't want to share nice car!!
|
Very nice! I like the mix of gloss/flat. How did you get well over 275 RWHP out of that 3.0L without turbo/supercharger?
|
Gary, the HP figures I stated are Flywheel, not RWHP.
I'll post some pics & specs of the engine shortly. |
Quote:
On Avgas you are over 300 RWHP (estimated).. |
Off the top of my head -
Boat-tailed Crank, 98mm RSR sleeves, Carrillo Rods & Custom Carrillo pistons, skirts ceramic coated, 10,4CR. Twin-Spark, 50mm PMOs... Edited to add RSR cams (of course!) Revs to 7400rpm. Soon I'll upload some Youtube of the car on the Dyno and on-board footage. It's a screamer. ;) Some pics in the meantime... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534424735.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534424735.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534426348.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534426348.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534426348.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534426348.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534426348.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534426348.jpg |
Here are the Youtube videos I promised.
On the Dyno... https://youtu.be/IV-rhlFfRIA And running through the revs. It runs out of gauges... :D Also turned out surprisingly stable at high speeds for a car without aero. https://youtu.be/QhqdvgbNC7I |
Thanks for posting - beautiful work. Paint, paint design, rear deck lid grill and mirror (Talbot?) mounting look original. Are the mirror mounts and deck lid grill parts you fabricated? Look forward to more photos.

shawn908,
The Mirrors are Talbot, but they're pretty useless. Probably where we mounted them - singer style in the quarter windows.... We got the driver's side mirror to work with a small round wide-angle mirror, but you have to train yourself to use it. This afternoon we did a revised bracket for the passenger side, but still needed a wide-angle mirror to make it work. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534530757.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534531384.jpg |

The wheels.
The pics below tell the story. We sacrificed a set of 17"s to create a set of Fuchs 6's and 7's. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534585037.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534585037.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534585037.jpg |
I won the rock / scissor / paper game and insisted on Wiessach Gold wheels with satin clear-coat finish...

Next, I'll post some pics of the bodywork if there's still any interest...

Back again. Here's what we started with, some pretty poor fitting G-series fibre work. The photo doesn't show it, but it was really cheap & nasty.

Thanks for sharing your build. Please do post more!

We ditched that for the backdate stuff.
Unfortunately local moulds are disgustingly bad quality and requires a lot of fabricating, but cheap and and the actual laminating is fairly good quality and lightweight. The rear bumper was relatively easy to shape, the corners were curling upwards so we cut them along the over-riders, realigned them on the car and re-laminated them. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534789549.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534789549.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534789781.jpg |
Industrial grade paint stripper and a lot of buffing took care of the anodizing on the window frames, a real *****ty job...

And then we started to wrap the sucker, in the most unexpected colour...

We got stuck in the interior. The dashboard before...
