what size is the cylinder head temp sensor?
I need to buy a new one and wanted to verify I have the correct socket size to put it on.
Are they 14mm or 13mm? Thanks!

New one is 14MM old single wire 13MM, Yes annoying.
Take a cheap 14MM deep socket and grind a slot in it so you can properly torque the sensor to the head, just be absolutely sure you go in straight and not over torque. Break a Leg Brother!

thanks all... I wanted to make sure that the new Bosch part available on here was a 14mm.
I am ordering an open split socket and they have the 13mm and 14mm versions available. Just wanted to make sure I order the right one.

Not sure of the dimensions of the open split socket, but check the sensor you bought. Mine had a VERY stiff wire coming off the back of the sensor. I cut a slit into a standard sized deep socket, only to find that it wasn't deep enough and the stiffness of the wire kept pushing the sensor out of alignment in the socket. I didn't want to force it so went another route.
I ended up buying a cheap box wrench in the correct size and just cutting a slit in the closed off end - the open side was too big to fit in the cutout where the sensor goes. I (gently) used that to tighten the sensor down. Took 2 minutes and worked like a charm. Not to take away from anyone else's excellent advice, that's just what worked for me. I guess it depends on what sensor you got.

you might want to save your $$$ on the split socket (especially given Kyngfish's guidance on how stiff the wire is) -- the CHT doesn't need to be super-tight, it simply screws into a threaded indentation in the cylinder head. Don't see another foreseeable use for the socket/etc. once installed

Well, the idea is to torque to spec and not too over hand tighten. Yes, finger thread it in and use SST at the end for proper torque.
I have seen one too many where the head was damaged due to over tightening, cross threading or peops using JB weld to hold the sensor in place. Kinda a critical to starting so please be mindful of how you install and keep it in place. Just my humble 2 cents, J

I have a brand new Bosch unit I bought last week, and it turns out i didn't need it after all. I can give it to you for what I paid, which was cheap. If this is something you want, message me and I'll send it out today. Cheers! |
