Finally pulled the Trigger: My new'ish' 1988 Porsche 911

Let me first start off by saying how much I appreciate the instruction, knowledge and support this forum has already provided me, from the responses from my pre-purchase struggles to the step by step threads that you all have posted.

So here it is, the day I bought her:

When I bought it, there was 88,000 on the clock, however it recently came off a full engine rebuild, due to a blown head stud, less than 1k miles prior.

The car came with several modifications, many I would have done myself, some…maybe not.

Exisiting Modifications include:
Fabspeed CatByPass
Autothority Performance Chip (might swap out for the Steve Wong if need be)
Elephant Racing Suspension: including Polybronze bushings front and rear, Monoball Shock tower bushings, Koni sport struts
28” Rear, 22” Front Torsion Bars
Turbo Tie Rods
Boxster front brakes with Stainless Steel Brake lines
RUF style front lower bumper
Caymen front seats
Momo Coarse steering wheel

At this point, the changes that I’ve made have been minor fixes or cosmetic adjustments which include: Re-tinting the windows all around and powder-coating the inner portion of the Fuchs black, back to the iconic look (as noted in the first pictures the previous owner decided to paint the wheels with a body matching ’S’ style, which isn’t my taste). And most recently, a FULL detail including compound, glass coat and polish which took me and a buddy 30 hours to complete.

Here is where she sits now

[IMG][/IMG]

Next projects include:
Fix or delete the current whale tail (currently the existing tail was installed/fix poorly. I am torn on whether or not I want to attempt to fix the tail, remove the tail altogether or say screw it and go for the duck!) I would really appreciate the community’s input on this one.
Fabspeed Maxflo Exhaust to complete the current setup
Porsche Classic Radio Navigation (the cheap aftermarket Kenwood head unit looks out of place)
Rennline Adjustable Pedals and Floorboards
Valentine V1 Radar detector, this is climbing the priority list every time I drive the car

Sweet Congrats!

Don't remove the Carrera Tail, it is proper for the Carrera

So does it have a front oil cooler too?

Car looks great.

Anybody else worry about long, dry grass catching fire under a hot motor? I've left a mark on green grass where I parked my car after a spirited drive.

Keep the tail! I usually don't like tails however I think you need the tail with the RUF-style front valance. It's also nice to see that you have the right tail and not a poser Turbo tail.

Congrats on the new ride! Car looks fantastic after the detail and black Fuchs make all the difference.

I had the same dilemma when I bought my '89. It had the Carrera tail on it but I ended up buying an new decklid as I just liked the classic 911 shape so much better. Mine had IROC style front/rear bumpers on it and I switched them back to stock. I think your car would look great with either the duck or standard tail.....just my simple opinion.

Before

After

With or without the tail, she's a beauty! Congrats again and welcome to the sickness!!

Discseven, It can get hairy at times with the front bumper... Luckily the tighter suspension makes it difficult to bottom out. Speed bumps are now the bane of my existence (in both theory and application)

Billy, I have been lurking at photos of your car since I bought mine. There is something to be said for that lowered stock look in guards red

Nice view of the Talbot Isles I would like to see how the underside looks as low as you have it south side of the Dames Point looks like you have a clean ride

Not a fan of tails, but your car looks great lowered with it.

That's a great looking Carrera. Please, keep the tail. The tail gives the car the right look.

Couldn't agree more....the lowered clean silhouette was what I was after. If I wasn't going this route, the only other thing I would have done is add a duck. Good luck with yours....a great starting point for sure!!

Alex - You have a great car, especially with the low miles, rebuild and mods. I really like your wheels....I''m not a "tail" person, but looks good on yours.
