Getting ready to start on my interior, with RS panels. Looking for input!

I'm seriously considering making a change to the RS America door panels by Bob at App Biz as the first step in my interior rehab since I'm done (for now) with the exterior. While my door panels are good, the map pockets have seen better days, so I'm looking at the RS as the basis of the interior rehab.

I've got a custom color interior (from Porsche) that looks close to what I've seen called Camel. I'm wondering if getting the RS panels in Black would look nice as a contrast to the top door trim which I'd keep in the original color. Has anybody gone 2 tone like this? The instrument panel looks good in black contrasting the Camel/tan of the dash top. Additionally, I'll go with some aftermarket seats eventually-most likely black.

Or, I can get some leather locally that I like, send it to Bob for covering the door panels (I'd probably get the rear Targa deck at the same time). Then I could get the rest of the interior done in the same material. At that point, I'd probably get my sport seats recovered in lieu of new seats.

Just kind of brainstorming here-decisions, decisions. I should have taken a pic and posted it, but I don't have one now.

I think it looks good!

I just did my carpets in black and I have the vinyl on the way to do the doors and lower sections of the rear trim...so once accomplished the upper dash, and upper most panels all the way around will be Camal and the lower sections black!
I am doing my own RS style doors with pull tabs.
Here is a post I did with pics:

K9:

When do you think you'll have the black door panels on with the upper Camel trim? That's what I'd like to see.

Hold off on AppBiz. My order for RS panels was delayed, and now the carpet is taking several weeks as well. (I called on the panels after waiting 10 days and they were never sent.) All his auctions have been removed from e-bay, so I am guessing he is overwhelmed right now.

He was very helpful and knowledgeable when I first called and I am still optimistic that I will get the goods. I'll post details when I do.

Tod,
When I did my panels from Appbiz, I was very pleased with their service. I talked to Bob on several occassions and shipping was fast. The panels are great. They fit perfect and the hardware is of the best quality. The only bad thing I can say is that the instructions were lack luster, but a little head scratching (and beers) and it got figured out. I talked to Bob again about 2 weeks ago on the Pelican chat room and he said he has revised his instuction sheet. I hope this helps. He is just probably just very busy.

Used Panels

If I understand your post, your panels are a custom color, Camel?
Want to sell them when you get your new ones?

I might be interested in selling them. I need to get to the point where they're out of the car.

I bought the sport seats and matching door panels together. Rob Pederson did the seats and I think he did the door panels as well. -- Curt

I did the AppBiz RSA panels. They look good and the hardware is nice. Installation was a tigertrash said, read the instructions. I took a bunch of pictures if anyone needs a better explanation of the instructions.

I e-mailed Bob for more hardware, because I want to be able to easily remove my panels, yet none I have. I think he must be extremely busy or ??. When I dealt with him, it was nice and quick. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. The product is nice.

We made custom panels with a black bottom and creme leather insert, angled to the corner toward the vent window. If I ever figure how to post pics I will try this weekend. Tey look great IMHO.

Souk

Any chance of you posting those pictures of the RS Panel install on a new thread??

I'm about to fit mine pretty soon and I don't have an instruction sheet.

Thanks

Eric:

Nice! What seats are those? I like the looks, sporty, but not "full race".

Did you just remove the rear seats and then carpet over everything? I'm considering taking out the seats, but I like having the shelf when they're folded down-I should say my dog likes the flat shelf when they're down.

Hi Ed,
The seats are Factory 964RS seats I bought from Harald in Germany.
The entire carpet set was removed and replaced with Black Perlon felt I bought.
I simply cut out the pieces from my old set and glued it in..
very cheap and it looks great..
If you are looking for seats like the one I have the OE seats from Porsche are big cash! but the replica's are a bit more we... they are BIG CASH as well. Jack olsen has the recaro RS replica seats.. I think he paid 2500.00 for the pr.
They are GREAT seats.. I think they are every bit worth the money..
Good luck on the project keep us posted..

later, Eric
