Update on is the search over?
Got a call from the seller yesterday. The PPI was completed and all checked out well. I will be confirming this tonight as i am meeting with him to discuss the PPI and sale. The seller said I would be extremely happy with the PPI, no broken headstuds etc. I am excited now and will give details later on

Listen to Matt. Seems as if you're the 'third wheel' in this exchange. Get on the horn ASAP with the mechanic. The seller's dealings with the shop should be limited to drop off and pick up times.
Nice Targa!

I think you are in good shape to go buy this car. While the seller may have been too involved in the PPI etc., I don't think there is any major problems with the way things went. If this is a reputable shop they have put things in writing, there shouldn't be any worries. After all, you are the new owner and a potential customer. They won't make any more $ on the previous owner.

Like I said the things you listed are fairly minor. The targo top is an issue I'd tried to use to your advantage. Good ones are still expensive used, or you'll pay several hundred to get the tears fixed. May a couple hundred off I would guess. The engine sounds tight, and if the chassis is clean and straight and you like it...go for it. It's your money, make sure YOU are happy with the purchase.

Buy it! Actually, I'd talk to the mechanic first, but it sounds good. Another option to the soft top recover is a fiberglass targa top, I think Pelican sells them, not sure how much but they look nice. Go for it, I think you found a good one. Seems to me it's a good sign the owner paid to have those small issues fixed, he's selling the car, so he didn't have to.

If you like the car, seems like a keeper. The numbers indicate that the previous bad comp/leak were likely carbon (not driving these things hard is a bad, bad thing). Fuel accumulator is a common replacment, along with the shift things. Seems like a fair price. Of course realize that you will find stuff wrong with it in short order...no PPI is perfect, and these are old cars, and stuff wears out. When was the clutch last replaced and have the shocks been replaced? Any "major systems" that haven't been replaced (brakes, suspension, carerra tensioners, clutch, etc) figure into your "sooner rather than later" costs. This seems like a decent car at a fair price.
First thing you have to do is lower it, get an alignment and corner balance. And fuzzy dice. Lots of fuzzy dice. |

Yeah Matt was pretty cool he had faith in me to pay for the PPI and Headstud check and ask for the money later. He was straight foward and said I want to sell you the car since your knowlegable about the car and you would seem to want to take care of it (i was thinking no shet

nostatic the car has carrera fed tensioners thats the first thing i asked when i first went and drove the car, the clutch was replaced recently but then again i will have to ask the wench or the seller he has the paper work that shows what was replaced and what work was done to the car recently. Lower it? i thought the car was plently lower when i drove it , you guys and your ass to the ground thoughts

Great choice, the SC targa. But, then again, I'm biased. Items found on PPI seems minor with exception of targa top which would run you about $800 to rebuild. You could DIY with help from this BBS. Buy the sucker and drive, drive, drive!
